Day one of the Pitchfork Music Festival went off with nary a hitch. Mission of Burma turned in an energetic and well received set, even thought the grounds were still slowly filling with attendees. Sebadoh's revisiting of 1993 brought back lots of fond memories to this writer, while pumping up and amplifying their classic tunes to great effect. We did notice that the majority of the crowd seemed into it, even if the age bracket......

The Pitchfork Music Festival kicks off its 2008 edition this weekend at Union Park, and we're going to highlight some of the "can't miss" acts of the weekend on Chicagoist over the next few days. Today we'll tackle the Friday night line-up, filled with nostalgia, brio, blood, sweat, tears, and louder than a Bomb Squad production. We hate the Aragon Ballroom as a live amplifier-driven music venue. Hate, hate, hate. The acoustics are awful, the sight lines suck, and the place hasn't been worth stepping inside since they got rid of the buckets of beer after that Sonic Youth / Public Enemy show we were at that ended up in a riot. However, we might have to force ourselves to step into the concert hall from hell now that we hear......

Really, they just really outdid themselves this year. Getcher......

The biggest hoopla surrounds the news that Mission Of Burma will be performing it's legendary Vs. album in it's entirety on Friday's bill. Other big names include Dinosaur Jr, Jarvis Cocker, and the team-up of Ghostface & Raekwon. Other support includes groups as varied in style as the shiny popsters Apples In Stereo, to the......
