Whether you wanted to know who the brilliant mind behind the MayorEmanuel twitter feed was or not, now we know, thanks to the Atlantic. And that man is none other former Punk Planet-er, creator of CellStories and the Chicago Mayoral Scorecard, and Columbia College journalism teacher, Dan Sinker. As the Atlantic puts it, Sinker "has a heart made out of Chicago and balls of punk rock." Hard to dispute.

Artist Anne Elizabeth Moore Acts Up at CBPA
If you were a reader of Punk Planet, you might be familiar with the Chicago-based subculture zine’s co-editor Anne Elizabeth Moore. No? Maybe you’ve seen her get “forcibly ejected from retail establishments.” She also wrote a book, Unmarketable: Brandalism, Copyfighting, Mocketing, and the Erosion of Integrity, which you can hear her discuss with the folks of Bad at Sports right here.
Weekend Lit
If you're looking to dodge the Taste, there's plenty o’ readings and events going on this weekend to satisfy your literary cravings. We’ll be on hand for the Guild Complex’s B.Y.O.P. Balls to the Wall
We hate sitting here in our castle, trapped like that long-haired slut, Rapunzel. Would someone come get her already? Her singing is driving us nuts. In two days, we’re supposed to go to The 2nd Annual Printers' Ball, and we don’t have a darn thing to wear. We got ash and cinder all over the dress we were SUPPOSED to wear, and our stupid stepsisters (they smell like fish), keep asking us to clean the...
Music with Meaning (and Chicagoist Writers)
It’s only the second day of June and we’re already feeling overwhelmed with all the events that are on tap for this summer. This month is extra chockfull of good times thanks to Music With Meaning, a series of events to raise money for two great causes: America’s Second Harvest and Rape Victim Advocates. Music With Meaning is a series of 30 music and literary events throughout the 30 days of June. You want jazz?...
WLUW Record Faire
We love WLUW. We love supporting WLUW. We love records. We love fairs (as long as they don’t include jousting since we grew out of that oh-so long ago, like, in 1998 and all.) So one would think that a combination of all four would be an instant aural slam dunk, no? We have to be honest here. If you’re looking for miles upon miles of records to thumb through in hopes of finding some...
Reading is Fun, Part Deux
Okay, we’re having fun with reading and writing this week, ‘member? So let us not waste any time and move on to The Dollar Store. The Dollar Store is the brain child of Jonathan Messinger of ThisIsGrand.org fame. He gets writers from all over the city, gives them a suggestion (something from a dollar store, get it?), then the first Friday of the month the writers read what they wrote and everyone has a beer...
