Any best-of list is subject to extreme reactions – those of total agreement, as well as complete disapproval. But, in Esquire’s June issue, its list of the Best Bars in the Midwest included a handful from Chicago. And, our reaction? A resounding “Yeah, OK, why not” and a shrug of the shoulders. Certainly, some of the picks seemed more worthy of “best” status than others, but nothing was so off-the-charts wrong that we needed to cry, “Outrage!”

Two years ago, when it became apparent that the people of this nation would have to endure another four years with a criminally negligent dry drunk as President, and that a majority of voters actually wanted this, Chicagoist entertained thoughts of reclaiming our "A" game and consuming all the liquor we could in order to black out as much as possible through 2009. We didn't follow through, mainly because we hold to the old adage that alcohol and politics don't mix. There are some people who disagree, of course, and you can call each other names on your own time.
