Restaurant week may be winding down, but it’s not over yet! Restaurant week runs until Sunday, Feb. 27, leaving you plenty of time to squeeze in a reservation or two. Still trying to decide which menu to take on? If you prefer to take part in the fancy and fashionable dining experience scene, with perhaps a slightly less exciting meal, make a date with BOKA.
Restaurant Week Review: BOKA
Hunker Down for Dinner at the Broadway Cellars
Escape the winter snow storms by cozying up at the lodge-like Broadway Cellars. With dark green walls, tall lofted wooden columns and a fully stocked wine cellar and bar, Broadway Cellars is the kind of lodge we’d like to find ourselves in on a snowy dark night.
Cozy Italian After Dark at Anteprima
Sometimes, meals seem to pass beyond the ordinary and into the realm of a glowing imaginary. This can happy for any number of reasons - good food, good company, flirtation, the right night, the perfect cocktail - and it rarely has anything to do with the price of the food. Those wonderful nights, and the restaurants that create them, have to be savored and shared. We were lucky enough to be lulled into one of those nights by Anteprima, and we cannot recommend it highly enough.
Foodie Rant - The Ethics of Free Food
Last night, when I got home from a late-night appointment, I found a package in my mailbox. Some other tenants in my building were there to watch me open it - it contained a bottle of spiritous liquor. "You're so lucky, I want your job," seemed to be the common refrain. The bottle had been sent as a free sample by a company that wanted me to try mixing it into some cocktail recipes, and at the time I didn't give it a second thought.
Review: Little Branch Cafe
The South Loop, especially the area south of Roosevelt, is not exactly filled with brunch spots. Most weekends, we make the trek up to Hot Chocolate or the Bongo Room - both excellent options, but they’re usually packed. In our desperate search for another option, we turned (sadly) to Google - and it led us to Little Branch Café. Hidden away in the Museum Park complex, not visible from the street, Little Branch Café is an absolute gem of a restaurant, designed with style and care.
Chicago Classics: Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co.
When we walked into the Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company for the first time, it was like stepping into another era where everything is wood-paneled, calorie counting is something to scoff at and credit cards don’t exist. Exactly what era isn’t entirely clear, but the atmosphere is one of classic warmth. Opened in 1972, the CPOGC has been packed with hungry patrons since day one, and the menu has barely changed in 27 years. Which is a good thing, because it’s just about perfect the way it is.
