Buzzcocks Make The Old New Again

Buzzcocks Make The Old New Again

We’ve all had those moments of fantasy where our favorite bands—long in the tooth as they may be—reunite, release a fresh album or come to town for just one last tour! The best-case-scenario is a dream come true; at its worst though, a weak performance by a once-favorite-now-aging band burns us with buyer’s remorse and forever sullies the image of our rock heroes. more ›

Hum To Play Millennium Park On Memorial Day

Hum To Play Millennium Park On Memorial Day

Hum made a LOT of noise down in Champaign back in the day. So much noise it eventually bled into Chicago and then across nationwide radio dials during the Alternative Rock explosion of the mid-'90s. Their sound was very "Champaign-Urbana; lots of heavy guitars, melodic vocals barely audible through the mix, and drums that sounded stadium-wide. They were pretty great and while their break-up a decade ago didn't exactly set tears a-flowin', they were missed. more ›

They Shoulda Been Huge: Chia Pet Returns!

Chia Pet's first album Elpee was the very first release on Johann's Face Records and we remember excitedly buying it at one of their infamous shows. They were this hard to categorize band out of Palatine in the late '80s that lured art students, skaters, punks, metalheads, jocks, cheerleaders and nerds under their sway. Lament the demise of The Jesus Lizard no more, for they have reformed to perform at next year's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in England! Now, why couldn't they have decided to do this for the Touch & Go fest a few years ago right here in Chicago? We smell a BIG fat paycheck ... and hold desperately to hopes that David Yow, Duane Denison, and David Sims bring their bonecrushing and always unpredictable brand of rock and/or roll back within our city limits sometime next year too. more ›

Point/Counterpoint: The Smashing Pumpkins Announce New Live Dates

CYNICAL TANKBOY: Oh great, Billy's back. As if it weren't insult enough that he pulled the Pumpkins' name out of the grave once his solo career stalled, now he has to add insult to injury by touring with a bunch of session musicians while cashing in on the sentimentality train? I understand times are tough dude, but if you're not going to tour with James Iha and D'arcy you should be calling yourself either The Billy Corgan Experience or ... Zwan. more ›
