Daley, the "Boss," was born on this date in 1902, and with his son leaving office Friday and Rahm Emanuel set to be inaugurated as Chicago's 55th Mayor tomorrow, it seems fitting that his specter would cast a bridge between the two. Daley Says Goodbye
Richard M. Daley capped 22 years as Mayor of Chicago yesterday with one final round of congratulations and kudos before riding off into the downtown fog in his standard Lincoln Town Car. Sun-times columnist Michael Sneed reported that Daley will set up an office at 900 N. Michigan with his son Patrick where the two, who have had an uneasy professional relationship, hope to bring some foreign investment for infrastructure projects to Chicago. Sneed also reported that Daley's post-mayoral security detail will be larger than his successor, Rahm Emanuel.
Daley Bestows Oprah With Her Own Street

The Final Daley City Council Love-In: A Recap
Some of you expressed curiosity that Mayor Daley's final City Council meeting might tackle some tough city business. We'll just call you eternal optimists, instead of "silly." Though Ald. Ed Burke did propose a measure in today's meeting requiring cell phones contain a special feature built into them allowing parents to block their kids from what called an "epidemic" of teens texting while driving, much of the session was reserved for what 30th Ward Ald. The aldermen even pooled their allowances together and gave Daley a parting gift of a crystal bowl engraved with the city seal, the start and end dates of Daley's time in office and the names of the 129 City Council members with whom he served. (We don't know if there were asterisks next to those who were indicted.)

Daley Wasting No Time Collecting Pension
Mayor Daley has a little more than two weeks left in office. While he does have some post-mayoral irons in the fire, His Elective Majesty is wasting no time in collecting his pension. Daley decided to start collecting his pension under the Illinois Retirement Systems Reciprocal Act, effective May 17. That's the day after he leaves office, y'all.
