Hendon Bows Out of Mayoral Race, Says Subppoenas Not A Factor

Given Hendon's loose cannon reputation, it was doubtful that the Chicago Coalition for Mayor ever seriously considered Hendon a viable candidate for mayor. Moreover, Hendon's announcement was curiously timed, coming one week after a federal grand jury sent out subpoenas looking into how dozens of state grants awarded for job training and educational programs, many of them sponsored by Hendon, were spent. more ›

Quinn Backs Away Further From Hendon's Brady Comments

Gov. Pat Quinn continued to make like Pontius Pilate and wash his hands of incendiary comments State Senator Rickey Hendon made about Bill Brady at a campaign rally Saturday. Hendon said of Brady, "I've never served with such an idiotic, racist, sexist, homophobic person in my life. " more ›

Rickey Hendon Blasts Bill Brady, Calls Him 'Racist, Homophobic'

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn may be having second thoughts about the choice to have Chicago's Black Sarah Palin introduce Quinn at a "get out the vote" rally on the city's West Side on Saturday. State Sen. Rickey Hendon used the opportunity not to talk up the man he was about to usher on stage, but rather to make personal attacks against Quinn's opponent and Hendon's fellow State Sen. Bill Brady. About Brady, Hendon certainly didn't hold back and said: more ›

State Senate Keeps Free Rides For Seniors

State Senate Keeps Free Rides For Seniors

Like it or not, the Legacy of Blagojevich lives on in the state of Illinois in at least one way. A bill that would have limited the free RTA rides seniors now receive - one of Blago's last acts before getting the boot from Springfield - has fallen short in the state Senate. The Senate Executive Committee voted 7-6 against advancing the bill which would have set a threshold for seniors to receive free rides: single seniors who make less than $27,610 a year or couples who make less than $34,635 a year. more ›

Senate Continues Deliberations Over Blagojevich

Senate Continues Deliberations Over Blagojevich

The long, arduous impeachment process has given way to a long, arduous deliberation in the state senate. Sen. Rickey Hendon (Chicago), who has voiced his opposition to the impeachment, requested the separation of the health care charges from the articles of impeachment, a motion that State Supreme Court Justice (and presiding trial judge) Thomas Fitzgerald denied. With that, Justice Fitzgerald left and allowed deliberations to begin. more ›

Adventures in Blago-sitting: Trials and Tribune-lations

Adventures in Blago-sitting: Trials and Tribune-lations

We've been keeping track of the Blagojevich impeachment trial and while it hasn't made for compelling viewing (how can they make such comedic transcripts boring?) we did get a kick out of the prosecution's cue cards for the transcripts. Such prudes, the government. Meanwhile, while the prosecution is currently reading off the transcripts and confirming with agents that it was, indeed, Blago on the tapes, it appears as if the Blago Tapes will actually be played for the Senate today and, we hope, for the rest of the world, too. It'll be the first chance for the public to hear the governor discuss certain pay-for-play schemes. more ›
