The Morning After: Bulls, Illini Roll

The Morning After: Bulls, Illini Roll

For the first time in a month, the Bulls have won consecutive games thanks to a 98-88 victory over the Houston Rockets. It was a close-fought game for the first half before the Bulls went on a 16-3 run in the third to extend their lead to 72-59. But the Rockets fought their way back into the game and Coach Vinny earned his first career ejection after storming the court to argue a foul call. In spite of a double-digit Bulls lead in the fourth, the Rockets cut that lead to just three with a little over a minute. Then Kirk Hinrich hit a clutch three and the Bulls nailed free throws down the stretch to clench the victory. Derrick Rose had an outstanding night on the floor, scoring 27 points (along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds). Ronald Murray had 18 off the bench and Joakim Noah continued to see limited action in his gradual return. At 33-37, the Bulls are still 2.5 games behind the Bobcats for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Next up, the Bulls host the Heat on Thursday night (7 p.m., CSN/TNT). more ›

The Morning After: Bulls Cruise, 'Hawks Lose

With Joakim Noah hurt, Brad Miller made the most of his start at center, scoring 25 points to lead the Bulls to a 104-97 victory over Houston. The Bulls have now won two straight road games, a great improvement for a team that's struggled mightily on the road all season. All five Bulls starters scored in double-figures including 20 from Derrick Rose and a 16-14 from Taj Gibson as the team shot over 50 percent from the floor for another night. The Bulls hope their trip to Texas continues on a winning note as they take on the Spurs tomorrow night (7:30 p.m., CSN). more ›

Who's Got Our Dancin' Pants? We Need 'Em Back!

Man, if ever there was an evening to get your groove on, this evening is that evening. Daniel Ash has a long, storied career manning the axe in not one, but three, groundbreaking bands — Bauhaus, Tones On Tail, and Love And Rockets. Whilst those past acts are known for their atmospherics, said atmospherics owing a pretty huge debt to Ash's guitar work, the man's DJ sets are a world apart. Which is why we... more ›

Deng Wins Sportsmanship Award

Deng Wins Sportsmanship Award

The Bulls' Luol Deng may be soft spoken, but that doesn't mean his peers in the NBA haven't taken notice -- and we're not just referring to his play against the Heat last week. They also recognize his sportsmanship, selecting him for the NBA's award given to "the player who best exemplifies ethical behavior, fair play and integrity on the court." more ›

Banana-Fanna-Fo-Fargot

Ever since Chicagoist was little, we’ve been dreaming up names for the totally awesome band we would eventually form. Back in college, we even went so far as to figure out the titles of our fictional band’s first three albums. So we always assumed all bands put that kind of thought into its name, thereby communicating its heart and soul in just a few words. more ›

Undead Undead Undead Undead!

Undead Undead Undead Undead!

Chicagoist remembers when The Sisters Of Mercy came through town in the early ‘90s and we were totally psyched. We weren’t exactly what you’d call Goth kids – we showed up to the show in shorts and a Keith Haring T-shirt since we reckoned it would get mighty warm in The Riv that night – and we weren’t exactly prepared for the massive amount of Goth kids in miles of lave and velvet that were... more ›
