We're not sure than the 2008 White Sox will be any more tolerable to watch than last year's team, but they'll no doubt be easier to listen to -- at least on the radio. That's because Steve Stone will be replacing Chris Singleton alongside Ed Farmer, the team announced on Tuesday.

But [Village Manager Mark] Rooney and [director of economic development for Wheeling James] Lang said the village never intended to stop anyone cooking for their church or any other religious organization.

World Sport Chicago, an organization that has helped spearhead Chicago's 2016 OIympic Bid, is working hard to bring international sporting events to Chicago to strengthen that bid. This weekend is an example of that effort; the U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team will take on Italy here in Chicago as part of the FIVB World League. The World League is composed of the top 16 men's volleyball teams in the world divided into four pools. The...

No, Chicagoist isn't promoting the return of short pants for the White Sox. What happened in the 70's should stay in the 70's. But with so much going on around the World Champs yesterday, we figured we'd give a quick run-down of a few items. Sure it Wasn't the Bears and Rams? The White Sox had a night to remember at the plate last night, clobbering the St. Louis Cardinals 20-6 at the Cell. The...

In the spirit of last night’s Oscars, we present this montage of thoughts: * Forget pimps: it was hard out there for Jon Stewart. Stewart is and was frequently hilarious, but what works on the Daily Show doesn't work for the Oscars. Like most unconventional hosts (Letterman, Chris Rock), Stewart was done in because he was expected to bring his sharp, cutting wit to a venue that doesn't appreciate it. An organization that rolls three...

This morning as Chicagoist was watching WGN News, we overheard they were running a poll on the Most Romantic Valentine’s Day movie. Dean Richards was rattling off the usual suspects like Casablanca and Officer and a Gentleman. Wow, no joke. Every time we see Louis Gossett Jr. sweep Richard Gere off his feet and carry him out of the factory, we get chills. One choice had us really confused though: Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Huh? Which...

It was only weeks ago that Chicagoist was pleased to find that even national media had the same respect for the White Sox's radio duo of John Rooney and Ed Farmer that we do. Sadly, that team will soon bebreaking up after 14 years on-air together.

Chicagoist is a bit old school in that we still love to listen to baseball on the radio. Sure, more often than not we watch the games on TV, but there's a certain romance to having somebody describe the nuances of the game that can't be seen, that the slower pace of the sport allows for. And there also room for stories--of teams and player from years past. We were almost disappointed when play resumed following a White Sox rain delay a few weeks back because we were enjoying some great tales about managers who knew they were about to be fired.

No, not to another city! The Sox are moving south on your AM dial next year, having reached an agreement to move their game broadcasts to The Score 670 (WSCR) from their current home at ESPN 1000 (WMVP). The 5-year deal will pay the White Sox only $2.5 - $2.7 million per season, about half what they get in their current deal. Chicagoist isn't sure why they didn't wait until after winning the World Series...

The Bears opener is still 4 months away, but Soldier Field saw nearly 48,000 pass through its gates for a football game of the other kind on Saturday. The U.S. national soccer team played an exhibition against England, losing 2-1. England's team missed some of its biggest stars like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen. Fans wishing to see those stars had to attend Tuesday's England-Colombia match in New York. The star of the...
