Do This: The Local Tourist's Route 66 Kick-Off Party
Theresa Carter, the force behind local events resource The Local Tourist, and musician Jim Goodrich are about to embark on a two-week round trip along historic Route 66, raising funds for pediatric cancer research along the way, part of a longer range effort by Carter to raise money for the cause that includes a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro later this year. Carter and Goodrich are planning a kick-off party June 4 at Cactus (404 S. Wells St.) starting at 6 p.m. General Motors has set up the two with a Chevy Camaro for the cause, another Camaro will be parked outside Cactus for attendees to gawk at and you can win a chance for a week-long Chevy loaner. Because parking downtown is expensive, Cactus is also offering parking passes at the garage nest door for $5.
Long and Winding Road
Paul McCartney is celebrating his 66th birthday by taking a road trip on Route 66. Which is how he wound up in Springfield this weekend, posing for a picture with a group of Cardinals fans at a gas station. [WBBM, Mirror, Daily Mail]
Even More Me
MeTV has been a not-so-guilty pleasure of ours for awhile. Its non-stop parade of vintage TV is a balm to our soul. In fact, we have a Sunday evening routine of sorts. If we're at home, at ten minutes before 5 we fix ourselves a dry martini, with two bleu-cheese stuffed olives, and settle down for back-to-back episodes of Night Gallery (occasionally continuing on for some Twilight Zone if we're feeling especially couch potatoey).
