Whether it was Wanda Sykes raising eyebrows for her controversial Rush Limbaugh "joke" or the President making fun of Rahm's potty mouth (3:40 in), there was something to get everyone talking at this year's correspondent's dinner, even if it didn't reach the greatness of Colbert's 2006 appearance. Check out video of Obama's speech below.

Rush Limbaugh gets a dose of good old Chicago sense, thanks to Charles, a local Republican. Not that he's the only Chicagoan taking on a conservative talk show host. [Progress Illinois, via Media Matters]
It's official -- the Cow is now... returning to Chicago radio. WLS 890 has announced that the radio personality everyone loves to hate, Mancow Muller, will begin broadcasting October 27th in the 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. slot, currently filled by conservative host Jerry Agar. In our interview with Muller last year he had some pretty harsh words for FM radio, so it's not surprising that he eventually wound up on an AM powerhouse. He also said at the time that offers had been coming in weekly and he could "be on [in Chicago] tomorrow" -- so the question is, if that's true, did he wait too long?
To the five people checking the site today, specifically my father: Please enjoy the above video of John Denver and the Muppets singing "Where The River Meets the Sea" from Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. Can you watch this without choking up? We cannot. Anyway! It's been so stupid-cold the last few days we've barely left our warmth cocoon on the couch (tip: the fuzzy robe makes a huge difference), but if you haven't...
Yesterday, we focused on the presidential candidates that made their way to the YearlyKos Convention at McCormick Place. But the event wasn't just Democratic hopefuls trying to connect with bloggers and grassroots activists from around the nation. The annual event was also an opportunity for progressives around the country to get out from behind their laptops for a few days and talk to each other, sharing tactics, experiences, pitfalls, strategies and ideas, networking with other...
The nicer the weather gets, the busier we get across the Ist-A-Verse. But we like being busy. Here's a peek at what we've been up to since last week! Chicagoist had an interview with Audrey Niffenegger, whose popular book, The Time Traveler's Wife, was based in their fine city. They also had a heated discussion about Rush Limbaugh's controversial Barack Obama parody, talked about whether Uncle Julio's Hacienda is a good place to get...
The internets were buzzing this weekend with Rush Limbaugh's latest parody of liberal self-loathing. Riffing on a column by LA Times writer David Ehrenstein, the song, sung from the perspective of civil-rights activist and sometime presidential candidate Al Sharpton and set to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon," has quickly become controversial. A sociological term devised in the 20th Century to describe a black character that appears dramatically to save a white protagonist, the...
Book burning, gay bashing, kicking a homeless woman out of a library for freeloading public resources? It sounds like the Holy Trinity of turn-ons in one of Rush Limbaugh's wet dreams, minus maybe a pharmacist handing out endless prescriptions to Oxycontin. But it turns out a fire at the John M. Merlo branch of the Chicago Public Library on 644 W. Belmont back in June was a little more pedestrian. Erica Graham, a 21-year-old homeless...
