Scottie Pippen Wants To Coach the Bulls

Sleep with one eye open, Jim Boylan. Scottie Pippen wants your job. And he's going the media route to getting it, which...probably isn't the classiest or most professional way to do things. more ›

Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale

good winter beers. It could be said that it was one of these posts that was the genesis of the "BotW" series. But we can't remember if we ever covered these beers individually for "BotW" consideration. Today, we rectify that, with one of our personal favorites. more ›

Yes, Noah

Yes, Noah

The NBA's annual draft took place Thursday night, and the Bulls added three new faces to the roster. With the ninth pick--which the Bulls had via the Knicks due to the Eddy Curry trade--they selected Joakim Noah from Florida. If nothing else, he certainly made the biggest fashion statement of the night with his seersucker suit, bow tie and crazy hair. Picking Noah was certainly consistent with GM John Paxson's style of going after players... more ›

Bulls Beat Suns, Finish Road Trip 3-4

With the Bears' season over, Chicagoist has focused our attention to basketball, specifically the Bulls. With their home arena invaded by Princesses on Ice, the Bulls spent the past two weeks wandering out West in their second extended road trip of the season. Sunday, the Bulls concluded their seven-game road trip by knocking off the Phoenix Suns, handing the NBA's second-best team their first double-digit loss of the season. With that win, the Bulls finished... more ›

A Break From Bears Coverage ...

With all the hype surrounding the Bears and their upcoming trip to the Super Bowl, we've been neglecting the other teams in town. Just because they're not headed to Miami doesn't mean they're not making news, so we thought we'd give a quick Friday update on the Cubs, Sox and Bulls. Cubs The Cubs signed Cliff Floyd, former All-Star and Chicago native, to a one-year contract this week. Now the question is: what to do... more ›

Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Goose Island "Imperial Brown Goose"

Three days into the new year and already it's time for "BotW?" Well, duty does call. And, while folks everywhere are already breaking their resolutions, some of you probably within moments of the final strains of "Auld Lang Syne" fading into the ether, we made a couple of promises that we're certain to keep. Think "52 beers in 52 weeks" is doable? Chicagoist does, and don't bet against us, either. Considering the amount of... more ›

Should the Bulls Trade for Iverson?

Should the Bulls Trade for Iverson?

Last week's Bulls-76ers game was evidently Allen Iverson's final game for Philly. The disgruntled guard has been inactive since Friday's game and will remain there according to team officials. Sixers Chairman Ed Snider said on Friday, "I think it's time for him to move on, and for us to move on and find out where everything stands." more ›

Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Delirium Nocturnum

Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Delirium Nocturnum

The American Heritage Dictionary defines "delirium" as a "temporary state of mental confusion and fluctuating consciousness resulting from high fever, intoxication, shock, or other causes. It is characterized by anxiety, disorientation, hallucinations, delusions, and incoherent speech." The folks at the the Brouwerij Huyghe, the oldest brewery in Belgium's Ghent region, take a distinct tongue-in-cheek approach to the definition, as anyone familiar with their popular Delirium Tremens can attest. While that beer is certainly worthy of... more ›

Your Kimchi-cago Bulls

Your Kimchi-cago Bulls

When he's not busy conducting forbidden nuclear tests, building the world's largest standing army, or fantasizing about a life in Hollywood, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il is a fan of your Chicago Bulls. At the very bottom of an NBA roundup, Chicago Sports' Sam Smith reports that the strongman has long been an NBA fan, and that his sons have been spotted wearing Bulls jerseys around their regulation-size basketball courts at the presidential palace. No word on which player is their favorite, but we're guessing it rhymes with Bichael Mordan. more ›

Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Before the start of the NBA season, Chicagoist actually thought the Bulls would be comparable to last year's surprising 47-35 team. Boy were we wrong! Whereas last year's team regularly scraped and clawed to overcome early defecits and win games they had no business winning, this year's team has been following the opposite script. Monday night's loss to the Utah Jazz saw the Bulls give away the game not once, but twice. They jumped out... more ›

If I had a Million Dollars...

If I had a Million Dollars...

Chicagoist wonders if that Barenaked Ladies song is running through the head of Michael Axelrod, one of the fans involved in the incident at the UC the other night that caused the Knicks Antonio Davis to jump into the stands to protect his wife. Yesterday, Axelrod's lawyer Jay Paul Deratany said they planned to sue Davis and his wife for more than $1 million, alleging that Kendra Davis battered him and Antonio Davis slander him... more ›

Bulls Season Preview

Bulls Season Preview

Tonight, the Bulls open their 2005-2006 campaign, and for the first time since MJ left town there are fan expectations that the season will end with a playoff run. Last season, the young Bulls surprised many when they finished the season 47-35 -- especially after an 0-9 start. While they exited the playoffs in the first round, there was a great deal of hope that they'd build upon that and become a contender in the... more ›

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

The Bulls tip off against the New Jersey Nets tonight at the United Center. Starting the opener will be: Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich at guards, Andres Nocioni and Othella Harrington at forward and Tyson Chandler in the middle. Eddie Curry won't be in the lineup because he'll be serving the first of his two game suspension for his part in a fight against Washington during the pre-season. This lineup is likely to be fluid, however. Curry will displace Harrington once his suspension is up, shifting Chandler to forward. And if Gordon's poor pre-season play continues, look for Luol Deng to move into the starting lineup. So any way you look at it, expect two rookies in the starting lineup. more ›
