Sure, the Bears broke the mold with their Super Bowl Shuffle, but the big team of the late 80's and early 90's - the San Francisco 49ers - try to top that (and fail) with their own song. Sadly, we will never get to see Rex and Orton do a Super Bowl Shuffle remix in Bears uniforms, but we can always dream...[via EIT]
Tuesday Diversion: Why NFL Teams Don't Make Videos Anymore
Singletary To Coach 49ers
Former Chicago Bears defensive star Mike Singletary has been promoted to head coach of the San Francisco 49ers after the 49ers fired coach Mike Nolan on Monday afternoon. Singletary, a Hall-of-Famer, has been a linebacker coach for the 49ers since 2005 and was assistant head coach this year. No word on whether or not The Fridge will be brought in as the team's nutritionist.
Bears Look Good Again, Grossman Up and Down
The Bears played their third preseason game Saturday night, hosting the San Francisco 49ers. With the Bears taking the field at home for the first time since last year's playoffs, all eyes in Soldier Field were squarely on Rex Grossman. Even before the game, camera crews and Chicagoist ourselves focused in on Rex's practice snaps. We wanted to see any signs of progress after Grossman's three fumbles against the Indianapolis Colts last Monday, of which...
And Then There Were Two ...
Our colleagues over at SFist are saying arrivederci to the 2016 Olympics. This afternoon, the San Francisco Olympic Committee formally withdrew its bid for the 2016 Summer Games. Last week, the surprise announcement that the San Francisco 49ers were looking outside of San Francisco for a new stadium brought up concerns about the bid. A major concern for the Bay Area's bid has always been the lack of an Olympic Stadium. With this announcement,...
Orange Crush
While the Bears had to come from way behind to steal their last victory against the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears win was never in doubt against the San Francisco 49ers this week as they took a 41-0 lead into the locker room at halftime en route to a 41-10 win. The Bears scored a field goal on their opening possession and then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. A Thomas Jones TD run gave...
Bears Season Preview
The Bears open their 2006 season on Sunday against the Packers up in Green Bay. What a way to kick the season off! While the Bears look to figure into the playoff picture, the Packers are focusing on the Brett Favre farewell (maybe) tour. The Bears should open with a key road victory against a division opponent, but in these big rivalries, one never knows. So just how good are the Bears this year? That's...
Loud and Clear Statement
The Bears came into this weekend with a surprising 6-3 record, which placed them atop the NFC North. But the division and the Bears schedule in general was pretty weak through the first 9 games of the seaon. The Bears wins came against the likes of the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions. Lots of questions remained about how the team would fare when opposing one of the league's top teams.
Bears Schedule Released
The NFL released its 2005 schedule yesterday, which of course means we learn the Bears' 2005 schedule. Once again, the Bears are denied any Monday Night games. Bear Win 23-13
Halloween night looked to offer up a scary matchup in front of a nation-wide ESPN audience between the 1-5 Bears and the 1-5 San Francisco 49ers. The Bears came away with the 23-13 victory, thanks in part to a big plays by a number of rookies.
Bucs Beat Bears
Quinn himself sounded as relieved as any Bears fan that he was off the field. "Coach Smith said if we stalled out, there was a good chance they would start Craig in the second half. You have to admire the man for being a man of his word. If you say you are going to do something, you do it. He did." Now is Quinn headed off the roster? With the team eying former #1 Draft pick Tim Couch, will the Bears cut Quinn to open up a roster spot?
