Tavi Gevinson, who runs her "Style Rookie" blog from her parents' Oak Park home, already has the attention of the New York Times and Vogue editors around the world, sits front row at Fashion Week and is feted by fashion houses like Comme des Garçons--all at the tender age of 13. Jane Pratt, who founded the pre-Internet era Sassy at the age of 24 appears to have found a kindred spirit (or at least co-conspirator) in the teenage Gevinson, though both maintain that the new magazine will be an entity all its own rather than a spin off of their personal publications.

Mayor Daley Gets Sassy Over Torture Case
As Mayor Daley continues to try to play the "Not My Fault" game in the Burge torture case, he's decided to kick things up a notch and get all sassy on us. Originally, the Mayor said earlier this week:
I was not the mayor. Wait. Wait. There's nothing in the indictment. You're mixing apples and oranges...you're doing a great disservice. I'm very proud of my role as prosecutor. I was not the mayor. I was not the police chief. I did not promote this man in the '80s. Let's put everything in perspective. He later added, "You can't hold me responsible. It would be like holding anyone responsible." All of this in spite of the well-known letter from then-Police Supt. Richard Brzeczek to then-State's Attorney Daley regarding medical findings on accused cop killer Andrew Wilson. In 2007, when running for re-election (as if there was ever any doubt), Daley went so far as to call the alleged torture a "shameful episode in our history." He added, "I'll take responsibility for it. I'll apologize to anyone. It should never have happened. Everybody should be held accountable. The system could have broken down."
It'd Be A Shame If You Didn't Win
Honestly, the last time The Lemonheads were in town they blew us away. Evan Dando carries an unfair reputation of putting on shambolic shows, and while that may have been true in the past, we've never seen that side of him. Sure, on-stage he can come across as a pleasantly buzzed good-time dude between songs, but once the music starts, he's locked into each and every song, injecting a ruggedness into his sweet pop tunes.
I Just Stepped in a Pile of Sassy!
Well, a pile of something: Sweet & Sassy, the tarting-up spa and salon party zone for little girls, is opening two Chicagoland locations in the very near future. One at 1730 W. Fullerton is set to open December 5, and another is in the works for the newly opened Oak Brook Promenade. A Sweet & Sassy spokesperson told Crain's that the company is looking to open 12 stores in our area in the next 18 months.
