Bears Fall To 4-6

Bears Fall To 4-6

The Bears headed out Seattle, a place where they hadn't won since 1976. They returned to Chicago still having not won out there since the Ford Administration, falling 30-23. What went wrong this time? Amazingly, perhaps it was not giving Cedric Benson the ball enough! A week after he gained 73 yards on 28 carries, Benson ran for 63 on just his first two carries on Sunday. Or at least somebody wearing his jersey on... more ›

Rexyback

Rexyback

I'm bringin' Rexy back That other boy threw just as many picks I think Rexy's special... he's my quarterback He can turn around our team or I'll take the flack So maybe Lovie Smith didn't perform a parody of Justin Timberlake's hit song, but the Bears' head coach did announce to the press on Wednesday that he was changing quarterbacks again and that Rex Grossman will start when the Bears face the Seattle Seahawks on... more ›

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

NBC announced on Monday that they are bumping the Bears - Seahawks game that was scheduled for the November 18 Sunday Night Football has been bumped in favor of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Chicagoist really can't fault NBC for this move. While we Bears fans feel obligated to watch their games -- no matter how ugly -- we really don't want the rest of the country to see the sorry state of... more ›

This Week in Stupid, Super Bowl Edition

This Week in Stupid, Super Bowl Edition

The news was light on Stupid this week, at least the kind we usually write about, but Bears news provided enough silliness to fill three newspapers so we decided to make this a special Super Bowl XLI edition of TWIS. After Sunday's win over the Saints, three men jumped into Lake Michigan near Soldier Field on purpose and had to be rescued. One of the men was described as "combative," which as we learned from... more ›

Good As Gould!

Good As Gould!

Chicagoist didn't expect the spanking the Bears administered to to the Seahawks the last time they met. In fact, the game wasn't decided until overtime, where the Bears won 27-24 on a Robbie Gould 49-yard field goal. The game was pretty much the nail biter we expected. Our 24-21 prediction was pretty damn close, and we were correct that Grossman's play (76.9 QB rating ) wouldn't neatly fall into either the good or bad category... more ›

Bears Open Playoffs This Weekend

Bears Open Playoffs This Weekend

Chicagoist knows where we'll be on Sunday — parked in front of our new 46" LCD TV that we bought in order to better watch our Bears. We have a feeling you'll also be similarly positioned on Sunday, too. That's because the Bears will host the Seattle Seahawks in their first playoff game, following a first-round bye. Seattle made it past the first round because of a botched field goal by the Dallas Cowboys last... more ›

Bears To Face Seahawks

Bears To Face Seahawks

While the Bears have known for weeks now that they'd be hosting their first playoff game, they finally know their opponent. The Bears will host the Seattle Seahawks at noon on Sunday following Seattle's miracle win over the Dallas Cowboys. When the Bears and Seahawks faced off in Week 4, Chicagoist was jumping off our couch in excitement as the Bears trounced the 'Hawks 37-6. But does that October win give any indication of how... more ›

Sunday Night Lights

Sunday Night Lights

Chicagoist can't remember from our middle school science classes whether bears are nocturnal animals or not, but the NFL certainly thinks they are. With the Chicago Bears now 7-0, the NFL and its broadcast networks are about to get into a bit of a battle over what time and which network will televise the Bears on a couple of upcoming weekends. more ›

Bears Now Tops in NFC

Bears Now Tops in NFC

The Bears made their first prime time appearance of 2006 on Sunday night againt the Seattle Seahawks. In addition to being the defending NFC Champions, the Seahawks entered the game as the only other undefeated team in the NFC besides the Bears. We expected a close game, but instead the Bears took the opportuntity to demonstrate to a national audience just how dominant they can be. They pounded the Seahawks, winning by a final score... more ›

Chicago Mauls Seattle in Coffee Battle

Chicago Mauls Seattle in Coffee Battle

Just to show you that we do read the "tips" section of the Labs, then do some research into the subject, Roast Magazine, a bi-monthly trade magazine "dedicated to the success and growth of the specialty coffee roaster", recently awarded their 2007 "Roaster of the Year" Awards to two local institutions. more ›

Bears Take Commanding Lead in NFC North

Bears Take Commanding Lead in NFC North

This game was a good bit closer than their previous two, and Chicagoist even feared for a while that they might actually lose, but the Bears won again on Sunday! In beating the Minnesota Vikings 19-16 in the Metrodome, the Bears won up there for the first time since 2001 and have started a season 3-0 for the first time since 1991. More importantly, this win gives the Bears a 3-0 record against the NFC... more ›

Bears Pick Apart Packers

Bears Pick Apart Packers

Well, that sure looked easy! Opening up at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the Bears made it perfectly clear who controls the NFC North this year, shutting out the Packers 26-0. This was the first time in Brett Favre's career that the Packers had been held scoreless. The Bears put together a complete effort, winning this game because of their offense, defense and special teams. Rex Grossman looked like a real QB, compiling a 98.6... more ›

Bears Schedule Released

Bears Schedule Released

The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers... more ›

Spotlight On May St. Caf&#233

Spotlight On May St. Café

On our "My Name Is Earl"-sized list of places to dine out (so named because something always gets added to the list and we'll never truly fulfill it) May St. Café was always near the top. When we finally decided to scratch that particular itch in autumn the Pilsen restaurant was closed, however. We never thought that we'd have a second chance to check out the place. But while the Seahawks and referees conspired to hand the Super Bowl to the Steelers the other night, a friend of Chicagoist mentioned that May St. Café had re-opened. So we thanked whatever higher power that answers our prayers for the new opportunity to cross May St. Café off our list. more ›

Bears Pound Packers

Bears Pound Packers

Chicagoist's prediction for the Bears - Packers game was pretty spot on, as the defense lead the way to a 19-7 victory. Friday, we predicted [T]he Bears defense renders Favre ineffective, picking off a couple and running one back for a TD. The offense adds another 13 or so, so we're going to say Bears win 20-3. Was Favre ineffective? While he did complete 31 of 58 passes for 277 yards, he failed to throw... more ›
