South Side Strangling Suspect in Custody

An anonymous tip may have led Chicago police to a serial killer on the city’s South Side. And DNA evidence from two other similar murders in the Roseland neighborhood match those found on Hampton. Connections to two other similar murders in the area are also being investigated. more ›

Crawford Convicted

Andre Crawford, the man accused of raping and murdering 11 women in the Englewood neighborhood during the 1990s, was found guilty of all 11 murders plus nine rape charges and an attempted murder charge of a 12th woman. Rape charges weren't brought against Crawford in conjunction with three of the women because they fell outside the statue of limitations. Crawford had confessed on video to police in the killings and described how he offered the women drugs in exchange for sex. The jury was due to return today to begin deliberating on whether or not to sentence Crawford to death, the third such case in Illinois in as many months; James Degorski received life in prison over the death penalty in October for his role in the Brown's Chicken murders and Brian Dugan received the death penalty in November for the murder of Jeanine Nicarico.
