Looks like Jerry Reinsdorf hasn't asked Kenny Williams for the checkbook back yet. Reports surfaced yesterday that the White Sox and shortstop Alexei Ramirez have agreed on a four-year, $32.5 million contract extension, locking up the Silver Slugger, should-have-been Gold Glove winner and an integral piece of the team's future.
White Sox Sign Ramirez to New Deal
White Sox Sign Danks, Quentin, Pena
With spring training just over the horizon, the White Sox are putting the finishing touches to getting their house in order. They avoided arbitration with pitcher John Danks, outfielder Carlos Quentin and reliever Tony Pena by signing each to one-year deals. The last time the White Sox went to arbitration was ten years ago with reliever Keith Foulke.
Last-Minute Shopping Plans: Spike Lee Signing at Barbara's Bookstore
Spike Lee's intense 1989 film Do the Right Thing was a seminal achievement. An ambitious, aggressive, stark look at American race relations and how we approach or ignore them until they reach a breaking point, Do the Right Thing has informed Lee's work ever since, for better or worse. When Lee's on, his films match the level set by "DTRT" (Crooklyn, Malcolm X). When he's not, his films suffer (Bamboozled)
Cubs Close to Bringing Back Wood; Sox Sign Twins Reliever
The Cubs aren't completely discarding nostalgia. Reports say that the Chicago National League Ballclub is close to bringing back Kerry Wood. Kid K, who successfully made the switch from fireballing starter to relief pitcher, is working on a deal that will be longer than one year. Lending further credence that a deal is close, Wood and his family have moved back to Chicago and put the family's Arizona home on the market.
White Sox, Konerko Come to Terms
Men want to be him. Women want their men to be like him. Jerry Reinsdorf and Kenny Williams didn't want him in a Baltimore Orioles uniform. Either way you look at it, the White Sox and Paul Konerko got it done, agreeing to a 3-year, $37.5 million deal with the proverbial shit-ton of money deferred through 2020.
Morning Box Score: Pierzynski Re-Signs With Sox
The White Sox have been doing some wheeling and dealing in the past two days. In addition to non-tendering Bobby Jenks and signing free-agent slugger Adam Dunn, they've re-signed catcher AJ Pierzynski to a two-year, $8 million contract. Signing Pierzynski was probably a wise move as there have been doubts within the White Sox organization as to whether catcher-in-waiting Tyler Flowers is ready to call games for a loaded staff that includes Mark Buehrle, Gavin Floyd, John Danks, Edwin Jackson and a returning Jake Peavy.
