We were out at Silver Cloud last night, when we remembered the interview we did with Larry Bell from last December. Didn't he say that he was going to have the new Kalamazoo Brewery beer at Silver Cloud? Indeed he did. We were excited to give it a shot, so we asked the waitress what they had on tap from Kalamazoo. When she said that they had Oberon on tap and on special, as soon as we picked our jaws up off the floor, we immediately ordered a half-dozen.

Common sense dictated that we should have stayed in Saturday night in the slightly drafty but hospitable environs of our apartment. However, when the fine folks at Unibroue plan a beer dinner, it's usually a great event. What made Saturday night's event stand out was the location of the dinner.

It is really cold in Chicago. Really, really cold. The kind of cold that makes you not want to leave your apartment, not want to go to work, not even want to go out drinking. So when it came time to go out to eat this week, all of our usual favorites just seemed too wimpy to stand up to Chicago's January weather. Sushi was too cold, tapas too small... let's not even get started on the idea of sitting through a tasting menu.

When cabin fever sets in, we take good news any place we can get it. Still, we had to read this bit of news twice when we received it. A press release sent to Chicagoist and other outlets yesterday from the Brooklyn Brewery announced that they've reached an agreement with distributor River North, allowing the Williamsburg-based craft brewer to sell its flagship lager, Brooklyn Brown Ale, and Brooklyn East India Pale Ale in the Chicago...

We don't ever want to become the kind of pet owner who carries around a teensy dog in a purse—that shit is annoying. But sometimes…we get a little jealous. It's hard to be away from the poochie (or kitties) all day, and every once in a while, even thought it goes against our better sensibilities, we can almost understand why you'd want your little doggie with you all the time.
