We’ve been obsessed with Sprecher Brewery sodas since we were little kids. Their Root Beer (which you may remember from our Root Beer Float cocktail) has won prizes and accolades of all sorts, and they can add one more: It’s so good, we were convinced to order soda pop from out of state.

The awesome holidays are coming one after another this August. Today is the 100th anniversary of the Root Beer Float, one of our favorite summer treats. Originally called a “black cow” (or a “brown cow, depending on who you believe), it was created by Frank Wisner in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Nights out on the town that end at sunrise are few and far between for us these days. But then, this site's editor-in-chief only has a birthday party once a year. After an evening of karaoke and cheap beer, we headed for the train looking for one more for the road. Which is how we found ourselves in the Note (1516 N. Milwaukee), of all places, at 4 a.m. ordering a Sprecher Hefe Weiss on draft ($5) as last call was announced.
