Michael Jordan's statue will not hold court alone next season at the United Center. The recently Hall of Fame ensconced Scottie Pippen will join Jordan in being commemorated in statue form with the unveiling happening probably sometime towards the end of next season. Said Pippen, “It’s an unbelievable honor and truly amazing. It’s something you dream of as a kid growing up, but you can never foresee those childhood fantasies becoming reality. You see statues of individuals who have done great things and made their mark on history, but as a basketball player, you never really think about arriving at this point. It’s an amazing honor for the Chicago Bulls to do this for me.” Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany of Highland Park, who created the Jordan statue, will create Pippen's as well.

Ten Commandments Debate Downstate
While there haven't been such issues in this neck of the woods, there's an ongoing battle in downstate Marion about having a statue of the Ten Commandments erected in the downtown square. Resident Ken Kessler pitched the idea to the City Council after seeing a similar monument in Indiana and got the support of the town's mayor, Bob Butler. Said Kessler, "I'm not a crusader, I'm just somebody trying to do something for our community. If we aren't reminded of these things that we have, we will see them gradually slipping away."
Naperville To Erect Dick Tracy Statue
Billy Williams and velociraptors aren't the only statues in the news. This weekend, Naperville will dedicate a nine-foot tall statue of cartoon crime fighter Dick Tracy, the newest addition to the town's riverwalk along the DuPage River. But why will a 2,000 pound bronze statue of Dick hover over the townspeople? Because a man who's been an integral part of the comic strip over the last 50 years lives in Naperville. According to the Tribune:
Sweetness Or Sour? Debate Swirls Over Payton Statue
The family of Walter Payton wants to put up a statue honoring the Bears legend, but they've been met with resistance from the Chicago Park District. It seems the Park District is a-okay with a statue of Payton going up - it is, after all, being donated by the Payton family - but has adopted a hard line of not allowing the statue to go up in the one place it makes sense: Soldier Field.
Lets Check Our Grammer Next Time
Given the Cubs century of futility, it's only fitting that once again a joyous event in team history is tainted with failure.
