The not-quite full-size foam replica of the Statue of Liberty won't be going up in Hammond after all. The statue was to go up in Wolf Lake but a structural engineer has told officials it's just not feasible.
Engineer Don Corson told the Hammond Redevelopment Commission that wind and ultraviolet light would damage the 130-foot, 50,000-pound resin-covered statue and it would require extensive renovation for an outdoor display.That's too bad for Hammond, but if you're still hurting to see a replica of Lady Liberty, head down to Birmingham, Alabama. The best part about their replica? The torch uses real fire.
