A Chicago Police officer was struck by a stolen car during a chase on the South Side early this morning. The incident started early this morning when the officer was "pursuing a vehicle" and then struck by the car near 79th and South Chicago Ave. Police apparently shot at the car during the chase, wounding a suspect inside. The car was found abandoned later near 137th Street and Ashland Ave. Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro told WGN both bullet holes and blood were found inside the car. Around 6 a.m., police arrested one suspect, who appeared to have been wounded, at a home in the 9100 block of Harper Ave. Police are still seeking a second suspect. The injured officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition was unknown but reports say the injury is not life-threatening. more ›

Several passengers on a CTA bus were injured last night when a teenager trying to escape a police chase crashed the stolen car he was driving into the bus. The incident happened shortly before midnight last night. One officer saw the reported stolen car and began pursuit; other officers followed and a chase ensued. The driver blew through a stop sign at 79th and Perry and crashed into a No. 79 bus. Eight people on board the bus were injured but were all listed in good condition at Stroger Hospital as was the driver of the car who is now in police custody. A car theft early this morning on the Northwest Side has prompted an Amber Alert because the car's owner's 7-month-old infant was asleep in the back of the car. The theft happened around 3:30 a.m. at 4242 West Bryn Mawr Avenue. The car is a light green 2003 Dodge Caravan with an Illinois plate number X533131. The mother had left the car running and unlocked. We're not even going to bother jumping to conclusions or questioning the mother's actions. At least until the child is returned safely. more ›
