NBC announced on Monday that they are bumping the Bears - Seahawks game that was scheduled for the November 18 Sunday Night Football has been bumped in favor of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Chicagoist really can't fault NBC for this move. While we Bears fans feel obligated to watch their games -- no matter how ugly -- we really don't want the rest of the country to see the sorry state of...

Remember how WLUW, one of our favorite radio stations, is being taken back by Loyola and will no longer be an independent, community radio station? And do you remember that program director Shawn Campbell turned lemons into lemonade by creating the Chciago Indie Radio Project? To jog your memory, CHIRP is working to bring low-power FM stations to Chicago and allow community radio to thrive, without the threat of being taken back by larger owners....

The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. The Cubs and White Sox each won their season openers Monday. Of course, the Sox actually began their opener on Sunday. A 3-hour rain delay pushed the game into Monday morning, when the game ended around 1:00am.

Yup, after 35 years on ABC, Monday Night Football is moving to cable.

Saturday night at the Park West, Chicagoist was entertained by Mike Doughty and his band of the same name. Trying hard not to pummel one another with our actual glass bottles (how nice to be treated like an adult at a concert), we settled into an evening of Mike creating a very intimate experience for the 900-person capacity venue. Jumping right into “Tremendous Brunettes” from his latest CD Haughty Melodic, the former Soul Coughing...

This evening brought together two ladies with lyrical and soothing voices that have found their callings in the folk/country genre. First up was Mary Gauthier touring for the CD Mercy Now. Gauthe presented herself on the stage by standing in the spotlight alone. Hidden at the side of the darkened stage was a lone guitarist accompanying her. It was the perfect set-up for her songs of loss, love, change, and even death. These motifs are showcased in the hipshaking stories of "I Drink" and "Wheel Inside the Wheel". The set-ups to her songs take on the same importance as the songs themselves forcing you to go along for the ride in order to know the full story.
