+(PLUS) Fest is basically a multi-city party to celebrate the release Bacardi+. Yeah, it's a marketing thing, but at least they're doing so in a way we can get excited about. On May 4 they're putting on ten free concerts in ten U.S. cities with more than 40 acts performing. The focus is on dancing with electronic acts and DJs forming the bills. Even Chicago's own Hood Internet is getting in on the act and performing in Las Vegas during the event.
Ten Cities + Ten Free Concerts / Chicago = +(PLUS) Fest
Team Bayside High Turbocharges Into The Weekend With "Spaghetti Western"
Team Bayside High are mainstays of the Chicago club scene and to celebrate a prime slot at this weekend's North Coast Music Festival the duo's released a new song for free.
Get Thee To Rehab
Three years ago two enterprising young men noticed a serious hole in the Chicago club scene; there were plenty of parties out there but there didn't seem to be a party that literally invited everyone to attend. They threw out the club kid hierarchy, adopted an anything goes attitude to the genres they would spin and decided that Monday nights would be the best time to test drive this concept they would name Rehab. That test drive grew into a road trip that grew into a regular transatlantic cruise of partying.
DOWNLOAD: Team Bayside High
Team Bayside High, the DJ duo of Derek Berry and Rick Carrico, is having a pretty good year; their weekly residency of Rehab Mondays was voted "America's Best Party" by Paper Magazine, they played Lollapalooza, they're so in demand you find find them DJing somewhere on almost every night of the week, and now they're finally releasing their first original track ... and it's good! They take a banging beat, keep the track short and sweet so it draws blood without draining you dry, and then pop vocals from Moneypenny's Jessica Gonyeaover over the top of it it.
Weekend Dance Party: The iPod Battle Royale Hits Double Door
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. Poignant words from one of music's finest, and most likely a mantra for perpetual partiers and DJs, Team Bayside High. Mainstays at Debonair Social Club's Monday party, Rehab, Team Bayside High (Derek Berry & Rick Carrico) are bringing their magic touch to Double Door tonight by introducing The iPod Battle Royale, this week's pick for Weekend Dance Party. What's an iPod Battle Royale, you ask? No, no, don't strangle your neighbor with the headphone cord because he's got that unexplained Natalie Imbruglia techno remix. It's a lot more friendly than that. But presumably just as rowdy.
Spandexxx Brings Some Free Energy To Town
The Spandexxx party, curated by the Moneypenny DJ team, has resumed in a familiar space with a new name, Beauty Bar. While they soft launched with a party there last month, we consider tomorrow's bash to mark the night's true return to form. Why? For starters they've brought Team Bayside High -- that duo of DJs currently ruling the Chicago scene sprinkling fun around them wherever they go -- onto the bill. Secondly, and even more importantly, they're bringing in musical guest Free Energy.
Weekend Dance Party: VHS Or Beta Deejays Hit Metro
Sup, Chicago venues? Want to get up on this DJ game, or what? Of the seven Weekend Dance Party posts we've run, three have been held at Smart Bar, which may make our readers question the time and effort we go to to determine what the best option is to shake it, week in, week out. But the fact of the matter is, we go to considerable lengths to get you the preferred destination, so we really have to give credit to Metro (the essential big brother of Smart Bar) for landing our fourth Weekend Dance Party. On Saturday they will be hosting a UR Chicago event featuring VHS Or Beta Deejays, Bald E., Team Bayside High, BBU, Perfect Kiss, Midnight Conspiracy and Action/Adventure, which for us makes for an obvious refuge to cut some rug.
Weekend Dance Party: Claychella Hits Lincoln Hall
Ahem. Well, this is a bit of a landslide pick, now isn't it? Nothing, and we mean nothing competes with Claychella for our pick for this week's Weekend Dance Party. In fact, there really was no point of finding a worthy competitor -- Lincoln Hall will be housing just about every notable Chicago-area DJ for this year's fest, which will be a 14-hour aural bender of all sonic wavelengths. Founded and hosted by Clayton Hauck (known for his party photography at everyoneisfamous.com), this year's Claychella will be the best yet, featuring the likes of Flosstradamus, The Hood Internet, Million $ Mano, Nick Catchdubs, WIlly Joy, Kid Color, Team Bayside High, and our very own Arts & Events Editor, Tankboy!
You'll Get Your Just Desserts
Hey, we already told you that Metric is THE show to see tonight, but afterward we're heading over to Lincoln Hall for the second installment of a new monthly party curated by local photographer Clayton Hauck. Just Desserts seems to follow in the "anything goes" mode of partying fun, and the DJs he's got lined up knows how to pick out party jams and bypass the crap tat you might hear at more mainstream clubs. Think of it as a college house party with less attitude, far less puking, and way more dancing.
