The Bengals are That Good...

While visions of playoff danced in Bears Fans' heads after last week's 37-6 victory over the Lions, another group of cats brought them back down to earth yesterday. The Cincinnati Bengals won 24-7, picking off Kyle Orton 5 times. While the Bears fall to 1-2 on the season, the Bengals are a surprising 3-0 for the first time since 1990. Are they really that good? And the Surfboard You Rode in On

As many predicted, the Bears cut QB Chad Hutchinson yesterday, just days after naming Kyle Orton the new starting QB and dropping Hutchinson to 4th on the depth chart. Hutchinson signed with the Bears following Rex Grossman's season-ending knee injury. Slow to pick up Terry Shea's overly complex playbook, he didn't see action until Dec. 5th. That was the high point of his Bears career as he went 18-30 with 3 TD passes (115.0 rating).... more ›

Re-Turner?

Re-Turner?

Just days after firing offensive coordinator Terry Shea, the Bears have offered the position to former Illinois head coach Ron Turner. Turner served as the Bears offensive coordinator, from 1993 to 1996 under Dave Wannstedt, before leaving to take the Illini job. His tenure running Chicago's offense included some of the Bears 'best offensive years. The hope is that he'll be able to once again awaken the offense. Turner, however, is still in talks with... more ›

Even Shoop Lasted 3 Seasons

Following a season in which the Bears ranked last in the NFL in total yards and points, offensive coordinator Terry Shea was fired on Tuesday. Having previously served as quarterbacks coach within the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs offensive sytem, Bears fans cheered his hiring less than one year ago when new coach Lovie Smith named him the successor to John Shoop. But when the team goes 5-11 and ranks last offensively, somebody had to be... more ›

With the 4th Pick...

Another painful Bears season wrapped up Sunday, with the Packers avenging their earlier loss 31-14. In the rout, the Packers tied a team record with 9 sacks. And the Packers, having already locked up the NFC North title, mostly played their backups. Packers QB Brett Favre sat after the Pack took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. No matter, they still killed the Bears. more ›

Bears Lose to Eagles 19 - 9

Bears Lose to Eagles 19 - 9

This week, the Philadelphia Eagles came to Soldier Field and left with a 19 - 9 victory. Backup QB Jonathan Quinn, starting in place of the injured Rex Grossman completed 26 of 43 passes for 215 yards, clearly was overmatched in his first NFL start in 3 years. And what was with the Bears abandoning the running game? You're starting a rusty QB, you've got the NFC's leading rusher in your backfield, and you only run 13 times? If Terry Shea keeps doing things like that, Chicago may start demanding they bring back John Shoop! Well at least Chicagoist can rest assured that the Bears won't lose this coming weekend -- it's their bye week. And they've still beaten the Packers! more ›
