Dye / Young Rumors Persist

Last week, White Sox GM Kenny Williams again found himself denying rumors that he was about to send his right fielder elsewhere in a trade. The latest whispers had Jermaine Dye headed to the Texas Rangers in return for all-star shortstop Michael Young. The Rangers were supposedly asking for Sox prospect Aaron Poreda in addition to Dye, and that might have been the deal breaker.

The fireworks continued to fly this past weekend at the again-not-so-Friendly Confines. Derrek Lee became the latest member of the Cubs to throw a punch, when he went after San Diego Padres pitcher Chris Young in the fourth inning after being plunked on the hand by a pitch. Chicagoist can't get that damn story out of our head now, but "Circle of Life" was the first thing that we thought when we heard that former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa is about to sign a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers in hopes of returning to "the show."

Chicagoist is as old school as anyone when it comes to baseball. We like the Wrigley Field scoreboard manual, don't eat any ballpark entree that doesn't belong to the hot dog family, and we miss the days when players wore stirrups. But we've never been a fan of the often childish "unwritten rules" that baseball players and teams follow.

The White Sox made their White House visit yesterday, where President Bush congratulated the team on their World Series title. As expected, manager Ozzie Guillen was a no-show because he was vacationing with his family. He noted to reporters, "A lot of managers push their players toward baseball and not enough toward family. A few months ago, we questioned some of the "fantasy experiences" that the White Sox offer, particularly the option to get married at the park. We know it might sound like an awesome idea to some guys... but we are pretty damn sure that there are no brides-to-be who would feel the same way.
