At the risk of feeding the hype machine, we still have to offer a congratulations to Mr. Kanye West for pulling in some Grammy gold last night. While we still don't buy the Grammys as an accurate barometer of the music industry and what's actually, you know, good in music these days, it's still the industry's main award show so there's something to be said for coming away with multiple trophies. While the night's big winner was Amy Winehouse, Kanye still managed to pull in four awards, as well as one of the night's most memorable acceptance speeches (surprise!) when he gave producers the verbal smack-down for trying to run him off in the middle of a tribute to his mother.

A lot has been said about Barack Obama. Some believe he is the hope of the country, some think he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Since we just finished reading “The Audacity of Hope”, we thought we’d keep it simple and review not the man or his politics, but the book itself.
As expected, the two book signings Sen. Barack Obama held earlier this week for his new work, The Audacity of Hope, were nothing short of insanity, with people circling around street corners at 57th Street Books in Hyde Park and forming lines six hours in advance at Borders on Michigan Ave.
No matter what you think of him, Barack Obama is an interesting study. So we’re excited to read his new book “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream”. We’ll do a longer book review once we’ve read it, but we wanted to let you all know that Mr. Obama will be signing copies of his book tomorrow morning at 57th Street Books. We’re including the quip 57th Street posted about his visit, so if you’re all going, read carefully -- there are a few rules to follow.
Look, Barack Obama knows that people are clamoring for him to run for president in 2008. We're sure that was evident the second he stepped off the podium after his goosebump-inducing 2004 Democratic Convention speech. But just in case the Big O (is it too early to make a nickname for him?) doesn't get it, one of his former Illinois senatorial opponents, Dan Hynes, held a press conference yesterday to beat the drum again. "We are a nation divided like at almost no other time in our history," Hynes said. "I believe Barack Obama can change this, that he, and he alone can restore the hope and optimism that has made this country great."
It’s official. Barack Obama is a rock star. The senator has already won a Grammy, but he’ll soon have something possibly even more coveted – a portrait by Annie Leibovitz. Leibovitz will photograph Obama for a Men’s Vogue piece due out in October, about the same time his new book, “The Audacity of Hope,” will hit shelves. If you don’t recognize Leibovitz’s name, and we’re not sure how you couldn’t, you’ve probably seen her celebrity...
We can’t help it. We love Barack Obama. There, we said it. We’re falling for it hook, line, and sinker. This guy (we hope) is the real deal. Obama is in Washington D.C. at the Book Expo this weekend. He’ll be one of the speakers tomorrow morning, along with Amy Sedaris; which is just too weird and fascinating; why are we not there? Obama will be discussing his new book, “The Audacity of Hope”, due...
