The FBI has been searching for the reputed mob boss Joey "The Clown" Lombardo for 9 months, ever since he and 13 others were charged with plotting at least 18 Chicago murders dating back to the early 1970s. Last night Lombardo was captured in Elmwood Park and taken into custody without incident. The FBI doesn't know where Lombardo has been for the last 9 months, but they've been looking all over the world for him....
U.S. District Judge James Zagal, presiding over the big "mob" indictments handed down last week, recently received a letter from Joey "The Clown" Lombardo explaining why he didn't answer the indictment, proclaiming his innocence and laying out the terms for his surrender. The letter was dated Monday with a Chicago postmark. Zagal answered with an arrest warrant yesterday.
We think it could be an interesting case, especially because it seems that it may be difficult for Calabrese to prove that the Trib published the photo maliciously, with reckless disregard for the truth, as the correction is now ALL OVER the news.
This morning the FBI started rounding up a bunch of reputed members of Chicago's mob... .just when you thought the Chicago mob was dead...
