The Cool Kids and Hey Champ have teamed up to craft a track we really wish had come out a few months ago since it would have sounded great whilst strolling down the beach, stopping occasionally to make out with someone and let the surf lick our toes. We've long appreciated The Cool Kids without actually feeling engaged by their music, but this collaboration really hits the spot and merges the rock with the hip-hop in a way Judgment Night never could. Seamless and delicious, baby.

You can have Kanye, Lupe, and Common; we're hitching our wagon to Chicago's fantastic rap duo, The Cool Kids. Already slated to Rock The Bells and perform at Lolapalooza, The Cool Kids continue their quest for not only world domination, but world peace as well.
This summer-like weather we've been enjoying all week? It's going to disappear this weekend. But our brief respite from Spring won't get us down. We mentioned the upcoming Rock The Bells fest is coming to Chicago this year and that reminds us of one thing: summer music to look forward to. Hey, it's not always about Lollapalooza.
Rock The Bells, a "world-class hip hop platform" that kicks off its 2008 tour right here in Chicago on July 19th, announced their main lineup yesterday, which includes local acts The Cool Kids, Kid Sister, and Kidz in the Hall. Ironically, The Cool Kids and Kid Sister (both playing Coachella this weekend) aren't listed on the Chicago itinerary, though they are listed for subsequent shows. We don't know if it's an oversight or not, but here's hoping they're added for the hometown gig. (Ed. note: They might be excluded due to the blackout around the Lollapalooza dates.) Even without the local acts, the lineup is pretty solid already, with hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, and De La Soul (returning a year after their triumphant Pitchfork set) leading the charge along with one of our personal favorites, Mos Def, and a few Wu Tang members thrown in for good measure. Additional acts will be announced in the near future.
Jim DeRogatis provides an obligatory "Chicago's next big bands" list today, and we actually find ourselves agreeing with most of his picks, even if a few are overly obvious. For instance it's not exactly like he's mining the underground when he predicts Kid Sister and the Cool Kids are going to break in 2008. We were pleasantly surprised to see Airiel and Tom Schraeder on his list, though, since those are two acts that we believe have been passing under the radar, and both are primed to grab a larger audience this year. Schraeder in particular has been riding a swelling wave of good press and larger live audiences.
Intonation is back! And they’ve partnered with the MCA to put on a big ‘ole party as part of the museum’s 40-year celebration. Even better? The whole show is as free as air. Intonation’s Rock/Art kicks off on tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a whole slew of local bands, representing some of the most notable sounds to come out of Chicago in the recent past. When you get there, check out the new Sympathy...
