Sunday night Chicagoist decided that there was no reason to get a full night's sleep, despite what Dr. Sanjay Gupta says, and we went to the Darkroom to see some artists who are using digital technology to enhance their performances or to even make their musical stylings possible.

Movies and Music Collide at the CSO
Next week kicks off The Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Friday Night at the Movies series. Sadly, this does not mean the CSO will be projecting movies onto its back wall and serving brie and wine like some upper-crust Brew and View. Instead, they’ll perform musical scores from some well-known films. A logical starting point for this series would be the silent film era so Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights” will kick things off on October 15th. The series will continue through the winter with The Golden Age of Film Music on November 19th featuring music from Gone With The Wind and Lawrence of Arabia and A Night On The Red Carpet, an Oscar-themed show on February 25th with selections from The Godfather and Doctor Zhivago. Tickets for these events are pricey but if you’re a student you can get in for only ten bucks.
Lord of the.. uh.. Suing
A Los Angeles judge has ruled Michael Flatley, star of The Lord of the Dance and Riverdance, can sue a Waukegan lawyer for extortion for threats made over his client's rape claims. D. Dean Mauro is the lawyer and his client is Tyna Marie Robertson. Robertson accused Flatley of rape last year but her case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. Flatley maintained that the sex was consensual.
Musical Journey to Middle Earth
The Auditorium Theatre announced yesterday that it will be hosting two "The Lord of the Rings Symphony: A Symphony in Six Movements" concerts in early October. Composed by Academy Award winner Howard Shore, the performances feature more than 200 musicians and singers, music from all three movies performed by the World Festival Symphony Orchestra, both adult and children's choirs, guest vocalist Sissel, synchronized projections of original concept and storyboard artwork from the movies, and a special appearance by Shore himself. Tickets go on sale on Monday.
