Let's Hope It's Not Just About Money

Let's Hope It's Not Just About Money

The NFL already has fans pretty pissed off because tonight, when the best game in the NFC all season is played, most of us will be stuck watching The Office and Scrubs instead. Why? Because the game will only be carried by the NFL Network, which is available only to those who have satellite or pay an extra fee for the channel. Those of us trying to keep our cable bill in double digits will... more ›

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

NBC announced on Monday that they are bumping the Bears - Seahawks game that was scheduled for the November 18 Sunday Night Football has been bumped in favor of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Chicagoist really can't fault NBC for this move. While we Bears fans feel obligated to watch their games -- no matter how ugly -- we really don't want the rest of the country to see the sorry state of... more ›

Tank Trades Stripes for Solids, Hester Trades X's for O's

After serving 60 days of his 120-day sentence, the Bears' Tank Johnson was released from Cook County Jail early Sunday morning. His sentence was reduced for "good behavior" during his time incarcerated, which included a private cell and nearly 100 visits from family, friends and teammates. Maybe Tank could call up Paris Hilton and tell her jail ain't so bad! While serving his time for probation violations, Johnson pleaded guilty to the gun charges that... more ›

Bears Draft Recap

Bears Draft Recap

The NFL held its annual draft this past weekend, and the Bears attempted to fill the holes on their roster in the hopes of building a team that can return to the Super Bowl next season. On Friday, we outlined what we felt were the biggest needs for the Bears. How'd they do in filling those areas? In the first round, with the 31st overall pick, the Bears filled their need for a tight end... more ›

Where Jim Kelly Is King

Where Jim Kelly Is King

Cheer up, Rex. You didn't win the big one last night, but soon some kid in Africa will think you did. A couple weeks ago, Reebok printed 288 championship T-shirts and hats for both the Colts and Bears to hand out during their postgame celebrations and become the instant must-have item for fans. The NFL then donates the losing team's schwag to a relief organization for developing nations. Never missing one second of a merchandising... more ›

Tank Johnson's Fate Announced

Tank Johnson's Fate Announced

Chicagoist has lost a lot of respect for Bears management this week. They talked a tough game, but when push came to shove they backed down. At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Bears GM Jerry Angelo announced that the Bears will suspend Tank Johnson for one game for "conduct detrimental to the team." ONE GAME!?!?! Talk about caving to the pressure to win at all costs. After serving his suspension, he'll be eligible to return... more ›

Sunday Night Lights

Sunday Night Lights

Chicagoist can't remember from our middle school science classes whether bears are nocturnal animals or not, but the NFL certainly thinks they are. With the Chicago Bears now 7-0, the NFL and its broadcast networks are about to get into a bit of a battle over what time and which network will televise the Bears on a couple of upcoming weekends. more ›

Partying With Orton Denied by NFL

Partying With Orton Denied by NFL

Chicagoist spends our fair share of time visiting Chicago's various drinking establishments, yet we feel there is still a thing or two we could learn about partying hard from Bears QB Kyle Orton. Apparently we're not the only ones. An unidentified student at the University of Illinois would like to learn from from Orton, too. He wrote the NFL and requested that Kyle Orton accompany him to school, as part of their Take a Player... more ›

Bears Schedule Released

Bears Schedule Released

The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers... more ›

Dome Sweet Dome?

Dome Sweet Dome?

A few months back, A Chicago bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics was discussed. Chicagoist whole heartedly endorsed the idea. Da Mere also came out in favor of such a bid. It was pointed out, however, that the newly renovated Soldier Field wasn't large enough to accomodate the opening & closing ceremonies or track & field events. So, while we already have many of the necessary venues we'd have to build an Olympic Stadium in... more ›
