Get Caught Up In The Rapture

A brief history of The Rapture: the band was at the forefront of the dance-punk movement in the early aughts and was DFA records' -- you know them as the label that the dude from LCD Soundsystem helps run -- first signing, then they released an awesome if somewhat bristling first album, then they signed to a Major and released a somewhat pedestrian and overly-glossy second album, then they almost called it quits, then one of them found God, the band got (mostly) back together to record a thrilling third album that they decided to put out on , yes, DFA records. more ›

The Rapture DJing at Evil Olive Tonight

The Rapture DJing at Evil Olive Tonight

We recently told you that palindrome proficient club evilOlive is the Monday night hot spot. Hipsters flock there (maybe because it’s so ironic to get loaded on a Monday?) to knock back PBRs and get down to the indie-rock dance party during the club’s weekly Rehab program. more ›

A G-Major Complaint...

A G-Major Complaint...

Eeeeverybody's talking the Complaints Choir of Chicago this week — Daily Herald, Sun-Times, the Trib, Time Out, 848, even UPI — and with good reason. The Complaints Choir is rad! How do we know? Er, Chicagoist is in it. And so are a bunch of Chicagoist readers. But we'd think it was awesome anyway! Really. We've covered the choir before, but as a quick refresher: Finnish performance artists and husband-and-wife team Oliver Kotchta-Kalleinen and Tellervo... more ›

Lollapalooza 2007: A Final Reflection

Lollapalooza 2007: A Final Reflection

We've finally recovered (well, mostly) from the whirlwind weekend that was Lollapalooza 2007. There were certain highs, and definite lows, but overall we've still pleased that the festival has chosen Chicago as its home. In its third year many of the past problems (like sound bleed or wonky scheduling that necessitated obscene amounts of walking in extremely limited spans of time) seemed mostly solved. There were a few cruel overlaps schedule-wise, but when you have... more ›

Lollapalooza: 5 Picks for Today and 1 for Tonight

Lollapalooza: 5 Picks for Today and 1 for Tonight

Each morning we're going to highlight five bands playing at Lollapalooza that we think are worth seeing. Some will be popular, some less known, but we believe they're all worth your time. And for those not making it to the festival itself, we'll round it out with an additional show going on after the grounds close down for the evening. The Switches We are sure we'll be cursing this band from England throughout the day.... more ›

Leaders of the Brit Pack

Leaders of the Brit Pack

Chicagoist is a big fan of channeling our inspirations into our creative output, so we’re naturally drawn to the British Invasion — worshipping Locksley. Named for Robin of Locksley from Robin Hood, one has to expect and accept a certain amount of best-intended robbery. Fortunately, this fab foursome from Madison (by way of Brooklyn) has the gumption and showmanship to pull off the rip off with more than a bit of style and an endearing dose of pluck. Whereas Chicago’s dour own Redwalls attempt a similar aesthetic, it’s Locksley that delivers because you can believe these guys truly love the music they emulate. more ›

Getcher Dance On

Getcher Dance On

The Rapture is in town tonight to play a dancetastic set at Metro. They're touring to support their sophomore full-length Pieces of the People We Love. This opening paragraph is boring in all the ways The Rapture is not. more ›
