If you haven't overdosed on Blagojevich-ing with Good Morning America and The View this morning, perhaps you'll find yourself glued to Larry King Live (or even ABC's NightLine) this evening. We're assuming he'll rehash all the Oprah-centric senatorial questions, as well as repeating his talking points about Impeachment Proceeding Rule 8b and how unfair all this is to him. Since it's Larry King, we're also going to assume there will be questions like "What's it like being governor" and "Gee, you've got a goofy last name" and "So, why are you here again?" more ›

Governor Rod Blagojevich's impeachment trial is getting underway right now but first: too many surreal moments from his interview on The View. Starting the interview with Barbara Walters on a TV screen; Joy messing with his hair; Whoopi looking like she wants to punch him...we could go on. Here's the Gov's appearance. At least Babs gets a little cranky with his ducking questions and even brings up the rift with the Mells. more ›
Tomorrow at high noon in Springfield, Governor Rod Blagojevich's impeachment trial will get underway but the Governor will be nowhere near the State Capitol. Instead, he'll be making the media rounds, hitting up talk shows, a move that cost him the services of superstar defense attorney Ed Genson. At least one local network (ABC 7) has said they'll stream the events in Springfield live tomorrow and suspect more will join. But what of the interviews? If you're close to a TV and what some unintentional comedy to get your week started, you can catch Blago on the following programs: more ›
Governor Rod Blagojevich's impeachment trial gets underway on Monday and things are, what else, a hot mess. So what's going on in the World of Blago as the trial approaches? more ›
Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa on Wednesday night became only the fifth major leaguer to reach the 600 home run plateau. Maybe it wasn't quite rain on his wedding day, but Sosa's historic home run came not just against his old team, but even against his old jersey — Sosa's 600th came off the Cubs' Jason Marquis, who now wears the "21" that Sosa wore during his tenure with the Northsiders. Chicagoist noted to a... more ›
Take a quick look through Flickr, and you'll see that the CTA is one of the most popular subjects for photographers' lenses. Interesting architecture, intriguing people, and a nice dose of urban decay all beg to be photographed. We were similarly inspired last weekend while waiting for a brown line train at the Belmont "L" stop. After taking a photo of the view toward the end of the platform, and two snapshots of a glimpse... more ›
One of the things we like the most about Chicago is that when the weather agrees, this city behaves much like a resort town. You can walk, jog, ride a bike, rollerblade, or skateboard along a massive lakefront to any number of beaches. And when you arrive at the beach of your choice, you can hang out for the afternoon, drinking, eating, and more drinking like there isn’t a care in the world. We stopped... more ›
Just when we thought we were out of the bad place with “30 Rock”, the worries start anew. more ›
According to the Sun-Times, according to The View, the ladies at the show read the Sun-Times! Anyone who subjects themselves to the show would have heard Rosie "Captain Coo-Coo Bananas" O'Donnell referring to her horoscope, which she plucked from the pages of the Chicago newspaper. more ›
On Monday, Republican Congressman Tim Walberg stated in a radio interview that he has gathered from his discussion with American troops returning from Iraq that "80 to 85 percent, in a conservative fashion, of the country is reasonably under control, at least as well as Detroit or Chicago or any of our other big cities. That's an encouraging sign." Chicago and Detroit may have their problems, but surely it is a bit far reaching to... more ›
Austinist gets arty with an interactive guide to SXSW, loved some local art galleries and a new art exhibit and lamented the possible loss of "Friday Night Lights" production to New Mexico. Bostonist was happy they finally found an Anna Nicole Smith connection to their fair city and that an Apple Store was opening up. They were less happy that new rules have been established limiting underage shows and that their Governor is spending... more ›
Remember when the Cubs were pitching their Wrigley field expansion plans, trying to get city and neighbor sign-off? Remember all the new features they promised? Now that the park construction is well underway, it turns out that the Cubs have changed the plans for a number of features. more ›
Prime Group Realty, the owners of the IBM Building, just lost their 2 largest tenants and with the office market in a big slump, they're considering converting part or all of their building to residential condos. Prime Group would start by making the lower floors condos then would consider converting the rest of the tower later on. more ›

Days before last summer's Taste of Chicago, Mayor Daley's new Traffic Management Authority, the same think tank that brought you flourescent green human speedbumps, decided to remove the stoplight and pedestrian crosswalk on Lake Shore Drive at Buckingham Fountain. The spot, named "Queen's Landing" after Queen Elizabeth II came ahsore there during her 1959 visit to the city, had had a stoplight since a teenager was killed by a car there in 1988. After removing the light, the city also continued its lakefront beautification project by erecting rustic wooden fences along the bike path to prevent pedestrians from crossing mid-block. "It's a touch of Olney, right here in the city," said a spokesperson at the time. more ›
Chicagoist is totally obsessed with the demolition of the Sun-Times building. There's just something about walking past it everyday and gradually seeing an entire huge building start to come down before our very eyes. Which is why our newest non-sexual crushes are on a couple guys (who happen to work in a great big black building designed by Mies van der Rohe) who have been updating us with some really great photos of the demolition progress. We're so envious of the view they have of the destruction. Actually, they'll probably have a really great view of the lake after the destruction and before The Donald's tower gets built. more ›
The old Sun Times building, which is currently being demolished to make way for Trump Tower, started on fire this morning. Chicagoist totally walked down Grand this morning on our way to work and thought, "Man, it sure is hazy today," while looking up Wabash. What idiots we are! We could have been on the spot with photos and live coverage. Instead we lazied our way into Nordstrom's for a grande skim latte and then strolled over to work where we got an email from Rod at photovox giving us the heads up. The photo above is the view of the commotion from our office. NBC 5 has more photos. more ›
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign got slammed yesterday in a report from its accrediting agency, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The report says that the continued use of mascot Chief Illiniwek and the tremendous controversy around that use had started to erode the academic integrity of the institution. The rate and amount of damage to the institution will continue to accelerate if the issue is not addressed decisively and soon, the report reads, and it cites two major problems that surround the debate: it pits students and faculty against university administrators and board members, and that it hinders recruiting efforts targeted to minority students and faculty. It's also pitting students against each other: last March, only 31 percent of students at UIUC voted to retire the Chief. more ›
After several years absence, the Pilobolus Dance Theater be will returning to Chicago in the fall and will perform at the Chicago Theatre. The dance typically involves gymnastics, group "structures", and overt and implied humor. Whenever we've seen photographs of Pilobolus we've though of beauty and strength.. and not .. uh.. Primus, Radiohead, and Squarepusher. But for its premiere performances on October 8 & 9, Pilobolus will perform an endurance test set to this music. The dance is called "Megawatt," and is to suggest our "high voltage" world. Ok.. we can see it.. it sounds interesting. more ›
This may sound like a familiar battle between the Cubs and the rooftop businesses surrounding the Friendly Confines. Prior to the start of the season, the team squared off with the Skybox on Waveland -- the lone business refusing to sign the 17% profit-sharing agreement. Ultimately, the two sides reached a deal and the Cubs never had to roll out their view-obstructing screen. more ›
