It seems the mail at our abode goes through phases, occasionally we get everything in a timely manner and other times we receive our last three issues of The Week all at one time. Our mail is delivered by a sweet lady, so we tend to let things slide, even though our entire building has to sort out the mail that isn't theirs and drop it in front of doors. If anything, the post office...

"cold and still funny" via ten-nine. The photographer notes that this "guy was part of a fund raiser on the lake on saturday. a polar bear club thing, but the ice was too thick, so they sat on it in briefs and speedos. i have way too many shots of that."

Frequent are the days, especially in summer, when Chicagoist finds ourselves struggling to make a decision between two or more fabulous things to do. Of course, we're usually deciding between work and sleep, but tomorrow night is something special. We know what we're doing, mainly because our roommate has never in her 24 years seen Star Wars, but we also really wish we could go to the Bookslut Reading Series at the Hopleaf. It's the second of a monthly series put together by the fine folks at Bookslut--we heard the first was awesome, and tomorrow's reading promises to be swell as well. And entirely free of light sabers! (We assume.)

Last week the Chicagoist office received 3 books to add to the "Local" shelf of our staff library. One is written by a Chicagoan, one takes place in Chicago, and one is both written by a local and takes place here.

The reader favorite was National Geographic, which is, um, a good magazine. Right? That seems like a pretty good if safe choice—respected, old-school, brainy, etc. High five, Trib readers. Clocking in at 2 (not clear how they're ranked) was ESPN the Magazine, which Chicagoist’s own Benjy suggested the first time around. Nicely done, B-Lip. Rounding out the top five are The Week, Budget Travel, and The Nation. List highlights: Christian Century, O, Bark, and ReadyMade. We actually really like ReadyMade (we're crafty), even if it's expensive and owned by Urban Outfitters, but we just can't get behind one Trib reader's use of "very unique." Yick.
