Thursday Afternoon Diversion: Tiger Woods/Nike Ad Remix Edition

Yesterday, on the eve of this year's Masters and Tiger Wood's return to golf, Nike launched a new ad featuring Tiger and the voice of his deceased father, a seeming response to the scandal that's surrounded the golfer. And, of course, the Internet has come through with a series of remixes. Check out the original ad here; our favorite remix is below and you can check more out here. Even our pal, WGN's Pat Tomasulo, got in on the act. more ›

Oprah Reaches Out To Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods hasn't said much since his car accident a few weeks ago that led to one of the bigger celebrity/sports scandals we've seen in quite some time. But we may hear more from him soon: a representative from Harpo Productions told the Chicago Tribune that Oprah has asked Woods to be on her show. "We have reached out to Tiger Woods' representatives, but nothing is confirmed," the rep said. more ›

Dispatch From D.C.: 'We Are One' Concert

             + 13 more

After our morning at the Capitol, we made our way over to the Lincoln Memorial for the "We Are One" Concert which was to feature a range of political, celebrity, and musical appearances before an expected crowd of up to 500,000. We were plenty early as we made our way through the masses and it gave us a chance to scan the hundreds of items available to buy from the countless vendors. Shirts, towels, buttons, flags, you name it, it probably has Obama's picture on it and you're going to pay a a lot of pennies for it. Once inside the grounds, we found the press section nestled below the right side of the stage with a nice view, though the set pieces and a jumbotron obscured our view of one of the two onstage podiums as well as the actual Lincoln Memorial, but, still, we weren't complaining. We dodged CNN's John Roberts as he filmed a report from our corral and set up position for the show. more ›

Extra, Extra

Extra, Extra

Leo Burnett was hurting last year when they lost the Cadillac account, but they just made up some mileage by winning the Buick and GMC accounts from General Motors Corp. GM says they want to focus their Buick ads more on cars and less on Tiger Woods. Hmm. Sounds like a plan. Starbucks is upping their fancy by kickin' up the salad ante. They now have two national and three regional salads offered daily... more ›

The History Behind the Month

The History Behind the Month

In the US, February marks Black History Month, and while there are no shortage of opportunities to learn about important and significant people of African descent this month, the purpose and history behind the event is sometimes lost. While Africans have been present in North America at least since colonial times, black history had barely begun to be studied — or even documented — when the tradition formally began in 1926. It wasn't until later... more ›

This is the first time that Medinah has hosted the PGA Championship since 1999. Coming off his... more ›

Chicago Tennis Prodigy Got Next

Chicago Tennis Prodigy Got Next

Chicagoist is sure you didn't need another story of a teenager making millions (No, really, we're just fine in our drafty apartment, thank you very much), but Newsweek has added to the hype of Chicago's Donald Young. Young, the 15-year-old tennis star, was featured in Newsweek's 'Who's Next' issue. You know, the issue with the ubiquitous Barack Obama on the cover. Young, who grew up in Chicago but now trains in Atlanta, went pro last... more ›
