Andrew Mason Stonewalls "Today Show" Re: Groupon/Google Deal
In the wake of the did-they-or-didn't-they-offer-six-billion week of news stories about Groupon and Google, Andrew Mason took to the airwaves of NBC's Today Show to talk about...nothing, really. Matt Lauer sat Mason down and everything started fine, with Lauer discussing the site's operation, and he managed to get an answer about Groupon users. Then things got a little weird.
Inherit The Windbag: Blago Does Today
While we much prefer the CGI video, there's also available for viewing this clip of our former governor appearing on NBC's on Monday. That one should be worth it.
Inherit The Windbag: A New Round Of The Blago Media Blitz
Out of the courtroom and unencumbered from any disapproving judge (until the retrial starts), former governor Rod Blagojevich is hitting the road to proclaim his innocence to the masses yet again even as he's now technically a convicted felon (pending appeal, of course). So far, according to Mediaite, Blago's got a pair of local interviews tucked amongst a trio of national interviews. The first crack at Rod goes to the NBC Today Show where Blago will speak with Meredith Vieira. He'll then hit the local airwaves on WLS and WVON for interviews and then, allegedly, take Saturday off, maybe for a jog (or kickball). Then it's a trip to Fox News where he'll sit down with Chris Wallace on Sunday morning. But perhaps the most anticipated of all these interviews will be Blago's return to The Daily Show on Monday night. Blago appeared on the show last September (though you'll now have to watch the edited version of the interview here) and it proved to be one of the few watchable TV appearances Blago made in that media blitz, so be sure to set the DVR. Or don't. We totally understand.
Obama: Tea Party is "Loose Amalgam Of Forces"
President Obama recently sat down with the "Today" show's Matt Lauer. While most of the interview was typical fluff (basketball, his faith), we did take some interest in the below segment addressing partisanship and the Tea Party movement. Obama is, unsurprisingly, very pragmatic in his answers but in the wake of the battle over health care reform, it's interesting to see him address the group, including the birther accusations.
Obama Talks Health Care
With the Health Care issue the hot topic on Capitol Hill right now, President Obama took to NBC's Today Show to talk about his proposal for Health Care reform and how he's prepared to do what it takes to ensure it gets passed.
Drew's Jailhouse Interview
Never one to go more than a few days without telling the media what he thinks, Drew Peterson gave a jailhouse interview with NBC's Today Show that, once again, proclaimed his innocence.
Blago Appears on the Today Show. Again.
NBC's Today Show talks to Blago about the travesty that is the denial to be on that reality show. While we had plenty of other suggestions, Jerry Springer has the best appearance in the video.
Blago Blitz Enters Its Second Week
Like your crazy ex-boy/girlfriend or herpes, former governor Rod Blagojevich just won't go away. We already know about his appearance on Letterman tonight, which given Dave's cantankerous manner might be worth watching, but this morning we were dismayed to find Blago ruining our morning again by swinging by the Today Show on NBC. He called the impeachment a "hijacking," kept bitching about the witnesses, claimed he was offered the chance to stay on as an incapacitated governor through 2010, and continued to compare himself to the thousands of Americans who have lost their jobs. So, just like every other damn interview he's done in the last 10 days. Except he quotes Jesus this time.
Adventures in Blago-sitting: Coffee and Blagojevich
In case you weren't up as early as we were to catch our Governor on television, here's pretty much all you need to know: Senator Oprah. Appearing on ABC's Good Morning, America, the Haired One was on the defensive as Diane Sawyer came after him. When pressed about the rumor that he had considered Oprah for Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat. "The idea came to me from a friend," Blago claimed. He admitted, "She probably wouldn't take it," but that didn't stop him and his team from trying to figure out how to offer it to her so it "wouldn't appear like some sort of gimmick." As for the impeachment, he's come to accept the fact he's not likely to be Governor come February, but he's still maintaining his innocence, saying, "The fix is in." Oh, and when asked about his wife, he quoted Kipling again.
Adventures in Blago-sitting: Inherit The Windbag
Tomorrow at high noon in Springfield, Governor Rod Blagojevich's impeachment trial will get underway but the Governor will be nowhere near the State Capitol. Instead, he'll be making the media rounds, hitting up talk shows, a move that cost him the services of superstar defense attorney Ed Genson. At least one local network (ABC 7) has said they'll stream the events in Springfield live tomorrow and suspect more will join. But what of the interviews? If you're close to a TV and what some unintentional comedy to get your week started, you can catch Blago on the following programs:
Stacy Peterson, One Year Later
It's been one year since the disappearance of Bolingbrook's Stacy Peterson and her estranged husband, Drew Peterson, took to The Today Show to maintain his innocence and to ask Stacy to, "Show yourself. Put an end to this nightmare." Of course, he doesn't expect her to reappear, as he told the AP: “If I was a little girl and the focus of all this media attention, I wouldn't be coming back. Why would a little girl come back to that?” While Drew makes media appearances, Stacy's family will be marking the anniversary with a candlelight vigil. After Stacy's disappearance, police went back and, after further investigation, reclassified the death of Kathleen Savio, Peterson's third wife, from accidental drowning to murder, adding to the intense scrutiny on Peterson. Will County State's Atty. James Glasgow announced last week that he expected, "a resolution in at least one of these investigations in the near future," a charge Peterson and his lawyer have dismissed as a mere play for votes in next week's election.
Reality Check: Where's Jon Bon When You Need Him?
After rumors that Jon Bon Jovi would be the guest judge on last week's Project Runway proved to be false, with Sarah Jessica Parker filling the celebujudge role, Chicagoist was hoping that he might venture to show up on this week's episode. As Tim Gunn led the contestants onto a soundstage, we held out hope, but instead were treated to...Tiki Barber? Yes, the former NFL running back/Today Show correspondent was the challenge subject and guest...
Drew Peterson: I'm Not Afraid of Law Enforcement
Drew Peterson was on the Today Show this morning, chatting with Matt Lauer about his wife Stacy's disappearance and his former wife Kathleen Savio's exhumation. (Anyone know how to embed that video?) "I can look you right in the eye and tell you I had nothing to do with either of those instances. I’m not afraid of law enforcement. I’m afraid of the media," he said. Maybe because he works in law enforcement, and Savio's...
Shani Davis Shines, Wins Gold in 1000m
While the Winter Olympics have been filled with disappointing showings by American medal hopefuls, Chicago-area speed skater Shani Davis lived up to his advance billing by taking the gold in the 1000m long track speed skating event. The 2005 All Around World Champion, he's the favorite to win gold in the 1500 meter and expected to do well in the 5000 meter event.
Na Na Na Na Na Na, He's Got the Look
Hey menfolk: have you got style? Do you press your pocket squares each and every evening, and hand-fray your tattered jeans into a delightfully distressed oblivion? Do you starch your designer underwear, and use the word "Dockers" as an expletive?
