It's the most wonderful time of the year. Time to buy presents! Which means it's time for Chicagoist's annual gift guide. For 2007, we're looking at lots of Chicago-centric gifts (plus a few random goodies thrown in for fun). Tickets, memberships, art, decoration, kits, classes, clothes — we've got you covered....
Chicagoist Gift Guide '07
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-Verse
Chicagoist is gearing up for this weekend's annual Air & Water Show along the lakefront. In what's becoming an annual tradition around there, staff member Todd McClamroch even got to fly with one of the participants. Chicagoist's decidedly opinionated readership was also appalled that one of their staffers found a popular local brewpub to be a great place to bring a kid. They also think that an unlikely activist for immigration rights should just take...
Extra Extra: "That's What Dreams Are Made Of"
Before we turn the controls to this lean, mean rocket over to the Tims this weekend, here are some other items in the news. A new law aimed at helping teenagers become better drivers allows their parents to review their driving records online. Two 911 operators who royally screwed up a call for police help during a July brawl at Durkin Park on the Southwest Side have been suspended without pay. A new program...
Extra, Extra
This week 150 Northwestern students will attempt to break the world record for most people dancing to the "Thriller" dance. Starting on March 5, V-me, the nation's first digital public television network entirely in Spanish, will debut on Comcast Digital Channel 241. Coyotes are on attack in Kane County! City planners dare supermarkets to go where no supermarkets have gone before. Wouldn't it be cool if you could text message 911 and send cell...
Chicago Fire Swarm Over DC United
Prior to Sunday's match, the Chicago Fire honored the 25th anniversary for the Chicago Sting's first Soccer Bowl Championship. From the first whistle this game was a hotly contested match that saw a lot of tough tackles, many of which were late and dangerous....
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Sometimes you need to clean yourself up, get serious, and move in with daddie for a few months before you head to Latin America for a new gig. The District bid's Jenna Bush adios. D.C.-based television shows have an elderly audience and DCist has some suggestions to fix that. They're also throwing Butterstick the panda bear a birthday bash. Yeah, we may have a few issues with our World Cup broadcasters here, but this guy...
Welcome to the Chicagoist Team
You've probably noticed a lot of new faces around here lately. When we get into the Chicaogist office in the morning these days, we pause for a second, thinking we're at the wrong place! But the site has been great lately - lots of quality posts and we're really enjoying our new additions. Hope you are too! Please welcome: Todd McClamroch, who will be helping write about Chicago sports. Thales Exoo who will answer all...
The Cure for Football Withdrawal
The Bears have been on the golf course for almost three weeks now and the Pittsburgh Steelers are off to Disneyland. Football fans fresh off their Super Bowl feast are prepared to hibernate until the 2006 season. That is unless you choose to become a Chicago Rush Arena Football fan. Chicagoist had put little credence in the Arena Football League (AFL) until recently. We first took notice of the sport when the Arena Football League...
