World For Sale!

World For Sale!

Live Nation has put the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park up for sale after an evaluation on their real estate holdings by CB Richard Ellis. If the venue is sold, it does not mean that concerts won’t be held there anymore, but it sounds pretty likely that this single-use venue could become a warehouse. With rezoning of the 110-acre property, we can imagine condos, condos, town homes, and more condos filling up the... more ›

Rock Venue News That's a Few Days Late

Rock Venue News That's a Few Days Late

The outdoor music space formerly known as the Tweeter Center (giggle) has changed its name to something even more ridiculous. The Tinley Park “shed” is now known as the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre. You might also think the space has changed ownership, too. What was once clearly marketed as a Clear Channel property is now billed as a Live Nation venue. But a few clickthroughs at the Live Nation website will soon lead you to... more ›

Elevated Concerts Serving Chicagoland Since 1998

Elevated Concerts Serving Chicagoland Since 1998

Clear Channel Communications in a move to have more Chicago street cred has renamed their music operations here to Elevated Concerts. Apparently sick and tired of defending their strong arm tactics and monopolistic-like buyouts during the '90s, Clear Channel is trying to get in our good graces by changing their name, not by changing their practices. Chicagoist finds this akin to a murderer changing his name in order to continue killing while on the lam, but that's just us. more ›

The Forgotten Child

The Forgotten Child

With all the brouhaha surrounding the brand new Intonation Festival and the revived Lollapalooza, one of the longer running festival stalwarts seems to have slipped in-between the proverbial cracks of buzz. We suppose that’s the price you pay when your tour becomes a more of a tradition than an actual event. more ›

An Island Paradise?

An Island Paradise?

The reviews are in on Northerly Island and they’re so glowing, we’re wondering if Da Mare is making a list of other underused airports he can bulldoze. Expect complaints from Burt Natarus’ constituents any day now (we know that’s not his ward over there but those people seem to complain anytime someone seems to be having too much fun downtown). more ›

New Concert/Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates

New Concert/Sports Arena in Hoffman Estates

Looks like the Chicago area will be getting a new arena to host concerts and sporting events. The city of Hoffman Estates, former home to Poplar Creek until 1994, will partner with retailer Sears and developer Ryan Cos. U.S. Inc. to build the $60 million, 11,000 seat arena. more ›

Music Makes the Bourgeoisie Come Together

Music Makes the Bourgeoisie Come Together

Tomorrow night's concerts offer a little something for everyone. At the Empty Bottle will be Camera Obscura, a Scottish band who is always lazily, but aptly compared to countrymen Belle & Sebastian. Not only is their sound strikingly similar, but Camera Obscura once featured current B&S drummer Richard Colburn and had a single produced by B&S front-man Stuart Murdoch. And both are most typically described by that elusive adjective "twee." For those of you mourning the loss of old-school Belle & Sebastian on the recent Dear Catastrophe Waitress - Chicagoist counts ourselves among you - check out Camera Obscura. more ›
