Esquire Magazine's "Best Sandwiches in America" article is a must-read, if only for us because it gives us a checklist of places to hunt down the next time we're on vacation (btw, Katz's pastrami on rye is really all that). Although we have to question the inclusion of the McRib sandwich, we have no qualms with seeing Chick-Fil-A make an appearance on the list.

Craigslist — a "virtual smorgasbord of products and services" — is a pretty fine resource for jobs, bikes, Sifl 'n Olly show DVD sets, and really killer missed connections. What it is not, however, is a pimping outlet.
Two Chicago pop-punk faves are ringing in the New Year* at The Metro. Swoon-worthy gods of the mall, Alkaline Trio will be headlining the evening, but they’ve enlisted the aid of legendary, and recently regrouped, locals The Smoking Popes to insure that everyone is happy, no matter which camp they belong to. Greed must have been contagious in Chicago-area police departments this summer and fall. That, or those holiday gift exchanges have gotten really out of control, because cops have been stealing money so they can buy the chief an iPod instead of just knitting him an oven mitt this year.
Two Chicago Boystown caterers, Hearty Boys' Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, won their own show on the Food Network. Dancing and merriment was seen on Halsted after the annoucement, although it's unclear as to whether celebrations were due to the response to the Food Network annoucement or spillover from the earlier Pride Parade. Dan and Steve beat out seven other contestants in a month-long competition. The couple's new show starts this fall....
Two Chicago gang officers were pursuing a gunman in a high-speed chase when they accidentally hit two kids crossing Grand Avenue between North and Kostner avenues. Witnesses at the scene say that the children ran out from behind a minivan that was stacked with mattresses on top of it. Upon impact, both children were tossed into the air. The victims are an 8 year old boy and an 11 year old girl. The boy is in critical condition and on life support while the girl remained in serious condition this morning. The police officers driving the car, which did have it's lights and siren on, are now on paid administrative leave.
