Bulls Open Camp

Bulls Open Camp

With the baseball season over for Chicago's teams and the Bears only playing once a week, we're relieved that weekday sports will soon return to our sports radar. Yesterday, the Bulls opened training camp. Because of Monday night's storms, they began practice without electricity, practicing by the light of one open door in the Berto Center gym. But you know coach Scott Skiles isn't going to cut practice short simply because there ain't no light!... more ›

Signed, Sealed & Delivered

Signed, Sealed & Delivered

Chicagoist knows it's old news that Ben Wallace agreed to a deal with the Bulls, but we breathed a huge sign of relief today when Wallace officially signed his deal and appeared with Bulls GM John Paxon and coach Scott Skiles. That combination of always fearing the worst we Chicago sports fans suffer, combined with the nearly two week period between when teams and free agents can begin negotiations and when they can sign deals, had us feeling uneasy. Could Big Ben change him mind? Could he decide to stay with the Pistons? Could something go horribly wrong with the estimated salary cap that wouldn't give the Bulls the cap space they anticipated? All these crazy fears ran through our head, along with trying to determine how to snag tickets to the NBA Finals. more ›

A New Benny the Bull

A New Benny the Bull

The Chicago Bulls dramatically upgraded their franchise in terms of toughness over the holiday weekend. First, Benny the Bull was arrested at the Taste of Chicago, after riding a mini-motorcycle without a permit and then throwing a punch at a sheriff's deputy. Barry Anderson, in costume as Benny the Bull, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway. more ›

Big Night for Bulls' Future

Big Night for Bulls' Future

The NBA Draft takes place tonight, and with both the 2nd and 16th picks in the first round, it'll be a busy night for the Bulls. And a critically imporant night, as the outcome could have an substantial impact on the team's ability to return to greatness. This draft, however, is also one of the least predictable in a long time. And weaker than most -- in part due to the rules change that keeps... more ›

Heat End Bulls' Season

Heat End Bulls' Season

The Miami Heat, led by the Shaquille O'Neal of old (30 points, 20 rebounds) overwhelmed the Bulls at the UC last night, winning 113-96. We began to appreciate just how well Tyson Chandler played defense against Shaq, before spraining his ankle -- he had another subpar night, playing just 18 minutes as foul trouble again plagued him. Nocioni, Gordon and Hinrich each contributed 20+ points of offense, once again, but it wasn't enough to keep... more ›

Heat Beat Bulls, Take 3-2 Series Lead

Heat Beat Bulls, Take 3-2 Series Lead

While the Bulls' Tyson Chandler played, after suffering a serious-looking ankle sprain in Game 4, he only played 5 minutes. While he said he felt well enough to play, his inability to get into the flow of the game resulted in 5 quick fouls in less than 5 minutes on the court. Hopefully, his ankle will feel better in Game 6. The Heat also face a player dealing with injury. Dwyane Wade went down hard on his hip late in the first half. While he returned and scored 28 points, his hip continues to bother him. He expects to play, but will he suffer the same effects that plagued Chandler? Bulls fans can only hope so. more ›

Bulls Beat the Heat Again

Bulls Beat the Heat Again

Seven seeds are supposed to pretty much roll over and play dead when facing a second seed, but the Bulls apparently didn't get that memo. more ›

Bulls Making Late Playoffs Push

Bulls Making Late Playoffs Push

Chicagoist has pretty much given up on the Bulls making the playoffs. Sure, we were diappointed for a while that they took a big step back from the progress last year's team made. Especially during that time between the Super Bowl and March Madness when they were about the only show in town. But we'd found solace in their likely two lottery picks -- including a very good shot at the first pick from the... more ›

Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Snatching Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Before the start of the NBA season, Chicagoist actually thought the Bulls would be comparable to last year's surprising 47-35 team. Boy were we wrong! Whereas last year's team regularly scraped and clawed to overcome early defecits and win games they had no business winning, this year's team has been following the opposite script. Monday night's loss to the Utah Jazz saw the Bulls give away the game not once, but twice. They jumped out... more ›

What's the Matter with Chandler?

What's the Matter with Chandler?

Back in the summer of 2001, coming off a miserable 15-67 season, it looked like the Bulls we set for the future after drafting Eddy Curry with the 4th pick and trading Elton Brand for the rights to 2nd pick Tyson Chandler. Both were 7 footers jumping straight from high school to the NBA. Bulls GM Jerry Krause drooled at the potential his young Twin Towers possessed. more ›

Is There Such Thing as a Good Loss?

Is There Such Thing as a Good Loss?

The Bulls are less than a week into the regular season and have played three games so far. They've got a 1-2 record. But Chicagoist is more positive about this team than we were heading into the season. That's because the last two games, while losses, were very tight games against very good teams. more ›

Bulls Season Preview

Bulls Season Preview

Tonight, the Bulls open their 2005-2006 campaign, and for the first time since MJ left town there are fan expectations that the season will end with a playoff run. Last season, the young Bulls surprised many when they finished the season 47-35 -- especially after an 0-9 start. While they exited the playoffs in the first round, there was a great deal of hope that they'd build upon that and become a contender in the... more ›

Just Offer Him a Drink of Water

Just Offer Him a Drink of Water

Clearly Bulls management doesn't watch enough CSI because then they'd know that to get a DNA sample, they don't actually have to ask for it -- just offer Eddy Curry something to drink and then remove DNA from the cup. more ›

Road to Nowhere?

Following last year's surprising playoff run, Bulls GM John Paxon vowed to bring back all of the key componensts. That job was made easier by the fact that only a couple bench players were unrestricted free agents. The rest were either under contract or restricted free agents. For the most part, Paxon has succeeded in signing the guys he wanted back. He signed unrestricted free agent Othella Harrington to a new deal. He matched the... more ›

NBA Moving Day

NBA Moving Day

While Chicago's moving days tend to be May 1 and October 1 (does anyone know why?), today begins moving day for NBA free agents. Their previous seasons' contracts expired at midnight and they are now free to negotiate with other teams. The Bulls are in relatively good shape heading into the free agency period with only minor roll players having unrestricted free agent status. The most notable are Adrian Griffen and Othella Harrington -- neither... more ›

Banged Up Bulls Blown Out

Banged Up Bulls Blown Out

The 106-99 score of last night's Bulls-Wizards game masks how Washington dominated the game. While the Bulls closed to within single digits at the end, they spent most of the game trailing by 20 or more. Washington first went up by 20 at 42-22 and pretty much held that margin until the Bulls started closing in during the 4th quarter. more ›

Bulls Beat the Wiz, Take 2-0 Lead in Series

Bulls Beat the Wiz, Take 2-0 Lead in Series

With Chicagoist in the house, the Bulls defeated the Washington Wizards 113-103 -- taking a 2-0 lead in the best of seven playoff series. That also means that Chicagoist will be partaking in a free Big Mac for lunch! Despite falling behind 17-4 in the first quarter, the Bulls rallied to take a 57-50 lead at the half. That run was sparked by the likes of Tyson Chandler, Jannero Pargo, Adrian Griffin, Erik Piatkowski and... more ›

Curry Out for Season

Man, that smarts! Just as Chicagoist is getting all excited about the Bulls in the playoffs, the Bulls announced today that Eddy Curry -- sidelined since March 30 because of an irregular heartbeat -- is out for the remainder of the season, incuding the playoffs. A press conference has been scheduled for 7:00pm this evening to give more details about Curry's situation. more ›

Bulls Dynasty Past and Future

In case you have already given up on the Bulls this season following their 0-9 start (tied for worst in franchise history), don't look now but we may have another dynasty on our hands. The Bulls have won two of their last three games! more ›

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

The Bulls tip off against the New Jersey Nets tonight at the United Center. Starting the opener will be: Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich at guards, Andres Nocioni and Othella Harrington at forward and Tyson Chandler in the middle. Eddie Curry won't be in the lineup because he'll be serving the first of his two game suspension for his part in a fight against Washington during the pre-season. This lineup is likely to be fluid, however. Curry will displace Harrington once his suspension is up, shifting Chandler to forward. And if Gordon's poor pre-season play continues, look for Luol Deng to move into the starting lineup. So any way you look at it, expect two rookies in the starting lineup. more ›

The Bulls unveil their 2004-2005 lineup tonight when they take on the Boston Celtics in Manchester, N.H. in their first pre-season game. Following a week of training camp, Bulls rookies Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and Chris Duhon will get their first chance to play against NBA competition. Bulls also have lots of newcomers in camp this season -- Othella Harrington, Frank Williams and Cezary Trybanski came from the Knicks as part of the... more ›
