Remembering Pearl Harbor
As many of you already know, today marks the 68th anniversary of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, the surprise military attack that killed over 2,400 people and wounded almost 1,300. The City of Chicago plans to mark the day with a ceremony this morning at Navy Pier. The ceremony will include a bell-ringing to honor those that died during the attacks, including the seven victims from Illinois. Members of the Illinois and Chicago chapters of Pearl Harbor Survivors will be in attendance as will Mayor Daley, who will also attend a wreath-laying ceremony. The Navy Pier ceremony will get underway at 11 a.m.
Vet Art Project Presents Work at DCA's Incubator Series
During the waning months of this year's epic presidential election, we saw the national conversation change from the War on Terrorism in Iraq to the global financial crisis. It's easy for those of us without family and friends in armed services to put the war in the back of our minds and focus on issues that hit closer to our homes. Tomorrow at the Chicago Department of Culture and Arts' Theater (78 E. Washington), the Vet Art Project will have a free, public performance created by war veterans in collaboration with artists of various mediums. The Vet Art Project allows veterans to tell their stories and creates discussion of how war touches all of our lives.
