Chicagoist's mail slot is constantly clogged by the numerous press releases we have coming over the transom, and while most are mediocre and unworthy of coverage at best, occassionally we get a real gem. Today's winner was tossed our way by Chicago band Unicycle Loves You. It reads:
PRESS RELEASE OF THE DAY: Unicycle Loves You
Monday Afternoon Diversion: Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go to Hell)
We bring you today a different take on Norther Europe's most recent cultural export, Wham! meets The Black Satans.
Liz Armstrong For NY Mag
Former divisive Chicago Reader columnist Liz Armstrong is back to giving the inside scoop on parties, except this time with New York City as her audience and NY Mag as her outlet. The current online editor for the equally divisive Vice Magazine, Armstrong recently profiled the queer women's party circuit for NY Mag's Reasons To Love New York year-end round-up. Armstrong's topics and choice of words have always had a tendency to rile up audiences and judging by the comments on her post, New Yorkers and Chicagoans have a lot in common when it comes to their opinions on Liz Armstrong.
Vice Magazine Turns 15. Chicago Celebrates.
Evoking even stronger love vs. loathe reactions than Chicago's music powerhouse, Pitchfork, NYC's Vice Magazine has been slinging irony, controversy and fashion Do's and Don'ts for a decade and a half. Now housing a record label, and frequent supporters of club nights and band gigs nationwide, Vice Magazine celebrates their 15th Anniversary in Chicago with DFA's Shit Robot spinning effect-heavy nu-disco and a live performance from Philly electro rockers, Tigersapien, this Friday night at Sonotheque.
Armstrong Now Parties With Vice
Liz Armstrong, formerly of Ye Olde Chicago Reader (we jest guys, we still have a soft spot in our heart for you) has been hired as associate online editor for Vice Magazine. Armstrong used to drive us INSANE with her party girl too-inside-the-scene hipster Chicago Antisocial column during her tenure at The Reader, but we must admit we're pleased to see she's landed somewhere were she may actually be one of the more normal kids of the bunch.
Intonation Music Festival 2006 in Pictures - Day One
Holy crap, we're tired. Day One of the 2006 Intonation Music Festival has come and gone and after a full day's rockin' out at Union Park, we're ready for a nap. No major craziness or incidents to report (though we did see one jackass get escorted out by security for disobeying the no-pushing-your-way-up-to-the-front rule). So far, the fest has gained diversity thanks to a mixture of indie rock, hip-hop, metal and pop but lost a...
Intonation Fest Ticket Giveaway
Yesterday, Intonation Fest organizers announced the final addition to the lineup for this summer’s two-day rock party in Union Park from June 24th through the 25th. And Chicagoist wants to give you tickets to see him. Former Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah will perform on Saturday in support of his new album Fishscale, which, like Wu-Tang, ain’t nothin’ to fuck wit. As reported here and elsewhere, Austin psych-rock legend Roky Erickson will also make a...
