The Bulls win streak came to an end at the start of their road trip as the Golden State Warriors thumped the Bulls 114-97. The Bulls hung tough, a back-and-forth affair at times, and only trailed by two early in the fourth quarter. But poor shooting hurt the Bulls down the stretch; the Warriors pulled away as the Bulls went almost four full minutes without making a shot from the floor, sinking only a pair of free throws in that stretch. Overall, the Bulls shot less than 37 percent from the floor and only hit 66 percent of their free throws. John Salmons led the Bulls with 25 points, Luol Deng had 20, and Derrick Rose had 19. The Bulls try to get back in the win column tomorrow night in L.A. against the Clippers (9:30 p.m., WGN).

Morning Box Score
Finally, the Bulls have another win. It doesn't matter that it was against the trainwreck known as the Golden State Warriors or that it took overtime, a win's a win. The Bulls got their 96-91 OT victory last night behind 21 points from Luol Deng and double-doubles from Joakim Noah (18 pts, 14 rbs) and Brad Miller (12 pts, 13 rbs). The Bulls found themselves behind by 7 at halftime but used a 23-5 run to start the second half and sprint past the Warriors for a lead. A healthy lead they would relinquish, sure. The Bulls spent most of the overtime period ahead and neither team did much scoring as the Bulls finally earned a win, snapping a four game losing streak. The second game of a six-game homestand is tonight as the Celtics roll into town (7 p.m., CSN).

Morning Box Score: Bulls Get First Road Trip Win
After a sluggish start - to say the least - on their annual Circus Trip, the Bulls finally broke through with a win, edging the Golden State Warriors 115-110. Larry Hughes led the Bulls with 26 points, Derrick Rose added 25, and Drew Gooden put in 18 with 16 rebounds. Before the game, the Bulls had started the season 0-5 on the road. Rose expressed relief at snapping the streak: "We really needed this one. We thought we could come in here and compete against them, and that's what we did. I had to shoot, and that's what I did. I stopped thinking about what I did and reacted to it.'' Next up for the Bulls are back-to-back games tomorrow night (Denver) and Monday (Utah).
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
There's so much going on across the Ist-a-Verse that it's almost impossible to keep track these days. Fortunately, we do it so you don't have to! Before the Fire
The Chicago Fire and their fans will pay homage to the Chicago Sting this Sunday in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Sting's first NASL Soccer Bowl Championship in 1981. During that season, fans came out to Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park not to see the Cubs or Sox, as there was a baseball strike underway, but to see the Chicago Sting. The Chicago Sting defeated the New York Cosmos 1-0 in front of a crowd of 36,000 in Toronto to earn the title.

State relaxes teacher rules, pencil makers sad again
Just as the makers of Black Warriors and Scantron sheets began their celebrations, the state of Illinois built some loopholes into the teacher qualification requirements of their No Child Left Behind compliance plans. On Thursday, the state Board of Education adopted a new set of rules with relaxed qualification requirements for veteran teachers, building in a system of credits that experienced teachers can accumulate in lieu of taking certification exams or going back to school....
Native Americans, 1: Injuns, 0
Score one for Native Americans! Following years of internal debate in the Village of Lemont, a community-wide vote this month and approval at Monday’s meeting of the District 210 Board of Education, the name “Injuns” has officially been dropped as the moniker of Lemont High School’s sports teams. The switch, to the not-so-offensive “Titans,” comes after five years of pressure from the Illinois Native American Bar Association, who are pleased with Lemont's decision but promise to continue fighting against the 27 Illinois high schools that still use “Indians” as their nicknames (not to mention the six that use “Redskins,” the three that go by “Braves” and the twenty that consider themselves “Warriors”).
