Chicago 2016 Kicks Off Washington Lobbying Effort

While the International Olympic Committee won’t vote on which city gets the 2016 Summer Olympics until Oct. 2, Chicago 2016 is hard at work lobbying for support from Washington should the city be granted the Games.

Although Monday was President-elect Barack Obama's first full day in Washington, D.C., planning and preparation for the inauguration has been going on for at least a year. Here's a preview of the work that goes into building the infrastructure for the inauguration.

Mr. Obama Goes to Washington; Booked at Haunted Hotel

Today is the day that President-elect Barack Obama is scheduled to move from the South Side to Washington DC. Michelle and the girls scooted out of town yesterday, a day earlier that scheduled, apparently to give them more time to adjust before the girls start school tomorrow morning. The move was scheduled to accommodate the girls’ school schedule, which starts up tomorrow after the holiday recess.

O.K., Barack Obama has nothing directly to do with this, but Washington D.C. bars will be open 24-hours New Orleans style for the inauguration next year. No word yet on whether alcohol soaked Hurricane slushies will be sold and allowed to take into the streets in huge Styrofoam cups.

All Kids has garnered national attention as other states and the national government...

Emporis has ranked Chicago as the world's 4th most impressive skyline. Unforch, they assign points to buildings based on floor count and then a total number of points is calculated for each city and this is how they rank the cities. So, by "impressive" Emporis means "most floors". Hong Kong, New York City and Seoul, who ranked above us, are lucky because if by "impressive" they'd meant "beautiful" or "distinctive" then we'd for sure...

President's Day.. one of those holidays where you don't get mail and the banks close early, but otherwise it's a non-event. Does anyone *really* celebrate it? If you're lucky, and much of Chicagoist has been, you might get off work. But all we've done on this day off was laundry. Lots of loads of laundry. Whee! Here's a suggestion: Since we're (still) celebrating Lincoln's birthday, along with Washington's, on President's Day, why not make...
