Weekend Diversion: A Very Special Wesley Willis Christmas
Remembering Wesley Willis
Wesley Willis is fading into the mists of history, and most younger music fans probably have no idea who the guy even was, but anyone that lived in Chicago in the mid-'90s probably had their forehead pressed to his as he said "Rah!" Willis created art both musical and visual, andd could be found all over the place peddling his creations to anyone and everyone.
Better Late Than Never: Willis Gets His Due
American Landmark Properties of Skokie is finally taking steps to recognize an iconic, if lesser-known Chicago personality. That's because today American Landmark Properties has made official the name change of the Sears Tower to the Willis Tower. And Chicagoist couldn't agree more - nearly six years since the death of Chicago busker, musician and artist Wesley Wiliis, he's finally getting his due in the form of a landmark office tower bearing his name.
Hunger Wins Top Prize at CIFF
The winners for this year's Chicago International Film Festival have been announced, and the top prize (known as the Gold Hugo) went to Hunger. We heartily concur. Even if we never have the occasion to see it again, this is a searing piece of cinema that we'll not forget. The film also won the Silver Hugo Award for Best Actor. Michael Fassbinder's portrayal of Bobby Sands was singled out for "exemplifying the ideal of 'being' rather than acting.'"
