We promise we love many elements about the Christmas season: the festive decorations, the spirit of togetherness, the delicious foods ... but other elements make us want to stab our eyes out. At the top of our list are awful Christmas songs. While there are some songs that make us reminisce about our childhood (anything from the A Very Special Christmas album is fair game), there are others that almost induce involuntary vomiting. We polled the Chicagoist office to compile a list of the Worst Fucking Christmas songs, and here's what was said. (You can wage your own bets about which Chicagoist writer said what):
Some Christmas Songs Make Our Ears Sad
Your Friday Food Buffet
Today is the last day of the work week, which means it's time for your weekly Friday Food Buffet. Not hungry? Too bad, because a healthy diet can help you avoid getting that nasty cold that we (and everyone we know) has. An Interesting Local Amateur Chef: We met Jason VonGerichten at a Ghetto Gourmet event this week. He cooked the main course for the evening, a delicious Asian-South American inspired platter that included both...
Re-Viewed: Morrissey at the Aragon
Last night was a completely different experience than the last time Chicagoist headed over to the Aragon for a Morrissey concert. The last time, the balcony wasn’t even open and only about one-fourth of the ballroom was full, but those of us there were singing, dancing and reveling in our love of songs about sad times, played expertly by a backing band of tightly clothed men. Chicagoist Overheard
It's been too long, friends! But Overheard is back in action, thanks to so many juicy submissions. Keep the hotness coming this-a-way; as always, you can reach us at overheard at chicagoist dot com. This week: the wheels on the biz-us, furry muffs, drag queens and murders—in other words, the Christmas season has started in earnest.
Dan and Steve: Party People
Add Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh to the top of the list of "People Chicagoist Would Hate If They Weren't So Nice." Not only have the Boystown caterers opened a successful new restaurant, HB: A Hearty Boys Spot, their new Food Network show, Party Line with Dan and Steve, premiered this week. And, the couple recently adopted a 2-month-old baby, Nate. All in unison now, "Awwwwwww."
Moxie Finally Living Up To Its Name
When Chicagoist heard that Moxie, the Wrigleyville restaurant previously noted more for its garage door facade and dark décor than its food, was re-opening, we shrugged. A friend of Chicagoist succintly worded it in an e-mail exchange last week, “Does Wrigleyville really need another tapas restaurant?”
