- Two Metra workers have been suspended after a weekend incident in which a young boy's foot got caught in a train's closing doors.
- Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of Sergeant Albert Ware, a Chicago soldier killed by an IED in Afghanistan last week.
- Edward Stapinski, the Lockport police officer involved in a deadly car crash on the Stevenson Sunday night, is being held on $750,000 bond. Stapinski's blood-alcohol level was allegedly three times the legal limit upon his arrest.
Extra, Extra
Bloody January, Part 2
Need more evidence that wintertime in these parts is enough to make Chicagoans feel homicidal? Here you go: our city has two festivals of horror movies occurring more or less simultaneously. Horrorfest III runs at Piper's Alley through Wednesday, and next weekend the Horror Society presents B-Movie Madness at the Portage Theater. The lineup boasts four horror flicks that definitely fall on the wacky, schlocky end of the spectrum.
Weekend Winter Weather
Well, we thought it was going to be a calm weather weekend. As it turns out, it's looking more and more like we're going to kick the weekend off with a bang. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the area beginning at 3 a.m. tomorrow morning and continuing until 6 a.m. Saturday morning. In between, it looks like the area could receive between 4 and 8 inches of snow. The advisory states that snow will move into the area in the pre-dawn hours, so be prepared for the morning rush hour. And as for the evening rush hour? Ugh, we don't even want to think about it.
