Union Workers in Illinois Reach Agreements
Two large labor organizations announced that they had reached agreements with key employers yesterday. At Peoria's Caterpillar, all seven of the United Auto Workers locals that represent some 6,000 hourly workers approved a six-year agreement which bargaining committee members said was “is as good as we’re going to get, this time.”
Another Weekend, Another CTA Clusterf*ck
Another beautiful spring weekend, another weekend of CTA work. Not only will the Blue Line be shut down between Clark/Lake and Western/Milwaukee (again) and served by shuttle buses, but the Red Line will be rerouted along elevated tracks for the stretch between Fullerton and Cermak/Chinatown. Transwestern is Best Chicago Employer, New Survey Says
Where is the best place to work in Chicago? According to the 2009 list released today by Crain's Chicago Business, Transwestern beat out more than 150 other large businesses in the Chicago area vying for the top spot. Several companies that made the list -- all of which had 100 employees or more per survey rules -- said they invested in employee development and meaningful perks such as full health-care coverage and transportation reimbursement for their workers.
