There's a lot going on in the world of sports, and we're busy working on our baseball season preview, so we'll just give you the quick shots:
PTI: Chicagoist Edition
Shani Davis Shines, Wins Gold in 1000m
While the Winter Olympics have been filled with disappointing showings by American medal hopefuls, Chicago-area speed skater Shani Davis lived up to his advance billing by taking the gold in the 1000m long track speed skating event. The 2005 All Around World Champion, he's the favorite to win gold in the 1500 meter and expected to do well in the 5000 meter event.

Welcome Home
The Bulls welcome the Orlando Magic to the United Center tonight, their first home game in over two weeks. They concluded their annual "Circus Trip" on Sunday, when they beat the Houston Rockets 94-89. That win pulled the Bulls record on the West Coast swing to an even 3-3.
Guillen Wins AL Manager of the Year
Rarely do World Champion teams have as few candidates for major post-season awards as the White Sox. Mark Buehrle and Jon Garland finished 5th and 6th in the voting for Cy Young. Paul Konerko is unlikely to break the top 5 in MVP voting. That just goes to show how the White Sox won as a team rather than riding some superstar's coattails.
Is There Such Thing as a Good Loss?
The Bulls are less than a week into the regular season and have played three games so far. They've got a 1-2 record. But Chicagoist is more positive about this team than we were heading into the season. That's because the last two games, while losses, were very tight games against very good teams.
The Golden Republic at Subterranean
We're back in from seeing the World Champion Chicago White Sox go by in trollies and decided that we should figure out what the heck we're doing now that baseball is over. We looked around and saw that The Golden Republic hailing from Kansas City, MO are playing Saturday evening at Subterranean. The Golden Republic are one of the many bands working the 70s glam rock revival, but are still getting some airplay. The...
With Open Arms
Not only has Journey’s Steve Perry been an inspiration to your World Champion White Sox, but now apparently Governor Blagojevich is taking a cue from the crooner’s sweet stylings. A federal investigation seeking to examine the hiring practices of Blago’s hiring practices is under way, and Blagojevich said yesterday that he welcomes the investigation because he has done nothing wrong, and wants to prove it to the good people of Illinois. In other words,...
Be Thankful This Holiday Season
We don't like to focus on the negative. So, instead of focusing on the Bears' ineptitude on offense, the Cubs' inability to trade Sammy Sosa, the White Sox losing Magglio Ordonez, the Blackhawks' lost season due to strike ... we're going to focus on the positive. What are we thankful for this Christmas season? We're thankful for the Bulls recent surge. The Bulls have won five straight games! That's right, the Bulls are 2 1/2 games...
