Dominick's Date Night

On Saturday night, the Dominick's supermarket on S. Canal dressed its managers in tuxedos, topped tables in red linen, cooked up a feast, hired a jazz singer, Latin dancers and a dating guru, and invited singles to come. By 7:30 p.m. more than 100 men and women packed in to the store's cafe to participate in Dominick's Date Night. Each person wore a sticker with a number and was asked to write notes to others. Very few did. Most were too busy with the food - shrimp, cheesecake, and sausage. One participant said he was there because he hadn't had luck in the bars. Another said, "If all else fails, we have our grocery lists." Chicagoist has sometimes felt desperate to find the man of our dreams, but this is too much!
